How can you argue that blinds are a useful and necessary invention? They are comfortable, compact, versatile, perfectly protect us from direct sunlight. Blinds have many advantages over traditional blinds and curtains, especially when used in the kitchen. But even the blinds get dirty over time and need to be cleaned.

What tools are better to use

Blinds are equally appropriate in a city apartment and in a country house. In the second case, they get dirty more often. In addition, in rooms such as the kitchen, soot and grease settle on the blinds, and the dust settles much more intensively, and with it moths and any small debris.

You can change the blinds to new ones as they get dirty, but this event is quite costly. Therefore, we will try to put them in order with our own hands in a timely manner, and so that cleaning and washing is as cheap as possible.

In hardware stores, you can purchase special products or substances designed for cleaning hard, waterproof exterior surfaces and equipment. Each of them contains instructions for use, which must be read. These funds are united by the presence of a strong alkali in the composition, therefore, such substances must be used carefully, always with gloves. It is better to resort to their help if the dirt on the blinds is very strong.

Since such funds, among other things, are not cheap, we will try to do with simple, familiar means:

• soda;
• dish detergent;
• soap solution;
• washing powder.

How to clean your blinds without removing them

These methods are suitable if you are dealing with relatively light dirt.

1. Dry cleaning. It is carried out with a dry soft brush, which can be replaced with a piece of sheep's wool or a paint brush. In no case should you wet them, because our goal is to sweep the dust from the slats. Moisture will leave dirty marks on the surface. The disadvantage of this method is that the dust can rise into the air and settle back over time.
2. Soap solution. It is prepared by dissolving laundry soap or washing powder in warm water. The lamellas are wiped on both sides, and the sponge or rag must be thoroughly rinsed as often as possible. After the blinds are washed, they should be wiped with a dry sponge to remove any remaining moisture and foam. The method is rather tedious and time consuming.
3. The cloth. Take a large piece of soft cloth. During the cleaning process, this rag will not rinse, so it is better if you take several of these cuts. Close the blinds, spray them with any window cleaner. Holding the lamellas with your hand, wipe them one by one, moving from top to bottom. After the end of the procedure, you will need to wash the window.
4. Antistatic agent. Add some anti-static polish to a bowl of water. Remember to wear rubber gloves. Rub each lamella with the solution, holding it on both sides with your fingers. The antistatic agent will subsequently prevent dust from settling.

5. Wet wipes. This is perhaps the easiest and fastest way. Close the blinds and thoroughly wipe the lamellas with moist wipes - cosmetic or special for office equipment. In this case, the plates need to lean against the glass a little and move from top to bottom. Change napkins as they become dirty.

The methods discussed above are suitable for blinds in residential areas. But what to do with those that hang in the kitchen and are quickly covered with grease and sticky dust? In this case, you need to use heavy artillery: remove the blinds from the windows and wash them much more thoroughly.

The most convenient way to do this is in the bathroom. The most common methods are a high pressure of hot water and soaking for a while in a solution of soap, washing powder or detergent.

Take your time to completely submerge the blinds in the soapy water. Cover and straighten them, then rinse thoroughly under a good shower on both sides. It is advisable to keep the blinds suspended. This will wash away most of the dirt. After that, you can start your main work.

Do not try to wash the assembled blinds: you will not get rid of dirt, but the lamellas will stick together.

First of all, remove the plastic plugs that are located at the ends of the cornice and the bottom bar. If this is not done, corrosion will form from the trapped water. You can reinstall the plugs after the blinds are completely dry. Better yet, try not to put the cornice and the lower bar in the water at all.

The remaining dirt must be removed by carefully wiping the lamellas with a damp sponge. When you are sure that all dirt has been removed, thoroughly rinse the blinds with a stream of running water, then wait for the water to drain and hang the product in place. Unfold the blinds gently, straighten them and wipe the slats with a soft, lint-free cloth.

The next day, when the blinds are completely dry, remove them and replace the blinds. Lubricate the lamella swivel mechanism with silicone grease for better performance.

Different materials and features of the sink

Due to their convenience, blinds have become very popular. They are made from various materials, and it will not be difficult for you to choose the option to your liking. But each material has its own characteristics. For example, the above methods are excellent for metal, in particular aluminum blinds.

Wooden products are far from so calmly withstand the effects of water, so they need to be washed if absolutely necessary. Moreover, it is undesirable to dip them into a bath with water; it is better to wipe thoroughly with a wet sponge or rag. Otherwise, the wooden lamellas will swell and lose their shape.

For plastic blinds, the same methods are suitable as for metal ones. However, this is harder to do: the plastic surface holds the dirt firmly, so use detergents that remove grease.

Fabric blinds are the most capricious. If the dirt is insignificant, it will be enough to use a vacuum cleaner and a wet sponge. For heavy dirt, it is better to use dry cleaning services. But if this option is too costly for you, then soak your fabric blinds in a solution of detergent and then rinse in running water. To do this, you need to disassemble the mechanism and remove the fabric surface.

You can wash such blinds in the washing machine by putting them in a special bag and setting the gentle mode. But with this method, there is a risk that the lamellas will lose their shape, and the impregnation will be washed off over time.

If you have bamboo roller blinds, please note that they cannot be washed in running water. In this case, vacuuming and wiping with a damp sponge will help. This is usually sufficient for bamboo, as it does not adhere as tightly to dirt as plastic or fabric.
