Composition and release form of the drug Catosal
The universal drug, developed by the reputable German firm Bayer, has managed to gain confidence and numerous positive reviews both in the professional environment of veterinarians and among owners of various pets. Catosal is an injection agent.
The drug is available in the form of a light pink transparent solution, packaged in one-hundred-gram dark glass bottles. This standard bottle contains the following substances:
- butafosfan - 10 grams;
- cyanocobalamin - 0.005 grams;
- methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate - 0.1 grams.
The composition is diluted with saline to the required volume and is ready for use. Catosal for cats is used in the same way as for other pets - only dosages differ.
Mechanism of action
Butafosfan is the main active ingredient in Catosal. This effective phosphorus compound was discovered and researched by Bayer developers over a century ago. During this time, there were many attempts to synthesize an analogue of butaphosphamide, but they were not crowned with success. This organic substance has the property of activating physiological processes in a weakened or fast-growing organism:
- strengthens the immune system;
- stimulates the growth and development of young animals
- regenerates liver tissue and improves liver function;
- promotes the restoration of bone tissue;
- helps the central nervous system to function normally
Catosal promotes the growth of young animals and increases the resistance of their body to adverse environmental influences
Cyanocobalamin, in fact, is vitamin B 12 and performs the most important functions in the cat's body:
- takes part in the metabolism;
- promotes the production of enzymes and hormones;
- improves blood formation;
- accelerates tissue regeneration;
- positively affects the functioning of the nervous system.
Veterinarians recommend the use of Catosal for cats for both therapeutic and prophylactic purposes.
Due to its valuable composition, Catosal has a complex therapeutic and prophylactic effect on the cat's body:
- immunomodulatory;
- regenerating;
- stimulating;
- tonic.
How to use the product correctly
The correct use of Catosal ensures its effectiveness, therefore, the dosage of the drug and the treatment regimen in each case should be discussed with the doctor. The dosage of the agent must be calculated based on the weight of a particular individual:
- kittens weighing up to two kilograms - 0.5 ml;
- pets weighing from three to five kilograms - 1 ml;
- for animals weighing over five kilograms - from 1.5 to 2.5 ml.
Indications for the use of Catosal in cats
Catosal is most often used as a tonic and metabolism stimulating agent. The main indications for its use are the following:
- weakened immunity;
- anemia and general wasting;
- metabolic problems;
- lack of vitamin B 12;
- the consequences of severe poisoning;
- reduced reproductive functions;
- the need for quick recovery after a previous illness or surgery;
- developmental delay, poor weight gain.
Catosal can be used during childbirth, as well as for the prevention of postpartum complications

|
The use of this drug in complex drug therapy activates the body's reserves, helps it to fight the disease more effectively or to recover in critical periods.
Catosal injections are done both intravenously and intramuscularly or subcutaneously, depending on the doctor's prescription. The administration of the drug is painless.

Features of use in kittens and pregnant cats
The safety of the drug makes it possible to use it for cats during pregnancy, for the smallest kittens, and for aging, weakened animals. The use of Catosal just before mating reduces the risk that the cat will miss.
Catosal is used before mating for the onset of pregnancy in a cat
During pregnancy, veterinarians recommend one injection at a time for three to five days; the dosage should be calculated based on the actual weight of the animal. This course is repeated at weekly intervals until the moment of delivery, thereby minimizing the likelihood of birth pathologies and postpartum complications.
Now Catosal will come in handy not only for a happy mother, but also for her babies. This veterinary medicine can be used on kittens of any age for a variety of purposes:
- for general strengthening;
- to increase appetite and normalize digestion;
- with lagging babies in development;
- before and after the use of antiparasitic drugs;
- for complete recovery from previous illnesses.
Contraindications and side effects
There are no contraindications to the use of Catosal in cats. This drug does not accumulate in the body and is not addictive, it can be combined with other drugs without problems.
Nevertheless, preliminary consultation with a veterinarian is necessary: in rare cases, individual intolerance to the components of Catosal is possible, and it must be excluded in a timely manner. Against the background of constant use of the drug, signs of an allergic reaction sometimes appear - but this is more the exception than the rule.
Interaction with other drugs
One of the great advantages of Catosal is that it can be used simultaneously with even the most powerful antibiotic, antibacterial drugs and other drugs.
Storage conditions
Although Catosal is completely non-toxic, its storage conditions should be strictly observed. The drug should be kept in a cool and dark dry place out of reach of children and animals. Duration of storage of Catosal without breaking its original packaging is five years from the date of manufacture indicated on the bottle.
Analogues and price of Catosal
A standard one hundred milliliter bottle of Catosal can cost from 800 to 1000 rubles. Considering the limited shelf life for an already opened bottle, the price of the drug may seem quite high. But usually in a veterinary clinic you can buy the dose of the drug you need (in a syringe). In addition, there are a large number of different analogs of Catosal, similar to it in composition and effect on the body - these veterinary drugs are usually much cheaper.
