Original eggs for Easter: non-standard ideas and techniques
The Easter egg is the most important symbol of the holiday; it is a ceremonial food that appears on the tables of all believers next to the cake. In Christianity, such an element is interpreted as a symbol of the resurrection, and the traditional red color in which the shell was painted is interpreted as a designation of the blood of Christ. Today, eggs are decorated with a variety of colors and techniques, making the decorating process a true family tradition.
Egg decorating methods
In addition to the classic ways of painting eggs for Easter, there are many other, more interesting decoration options. For decoration, you can use both purchased tools and use improvised materials.
Thermal Stickers
Iron-on stickers are one of the easiest ways to quickly get a beautiful design. The film is sold with ribbons, in which there are overlays on several Easter eggs at once (usually there are from 5 to 7). It is very simple to use such a decoration:
- Cut the ribbon with patterns along the dividing lines.
- Put the selected picture on a pre-boiled egg. It is worth remembering that shrink stickers of the same size may simply not work for large eggs. Therefore, before boiling, it is better to check that the egg size and decor match.
- Carefully place the wrapped egg on a ladle or spoon and immerse in boiling water for 2-3 seconds. The pad will instantly shrink to fit the shape of an egg.
The thermal stickers are instantly attached to the egg when dipped in boiling water
The advantage of this method is the simplicity and speed of obtaining a beautiful drawing.
Iron-on stickers are my favorite way to decorate eggs. It is so simple that it is simply impossible not to use it. The main thing for me is to choose beautiful, not too clumsy drawings, and then no difficulties arise. For about 5 years now I have been working on Easter eggs myself, removing this concern from my wife.
Powdered sugar
Decorating with powdered sugar is reminiscent of icing on gingerbread - the same delicate work with a wide field for imagination. Eggs for this method of decoration must be boiled in advance, and if they are white, then also painted in any convenient way, since a white pattern on the same shell is unlikely to be noticeable. The process for working with powdered sugar is very simple:
-
It is necessary to prepare a mixture for decoration. For this, powdered sugar is mixed with a small amount of water until a thick, homogeneous mass is obtained.
Powdered sugar is mixed with water until smooth.
-
Sugar paste is transferred into a pastry bag with a fine nozzle or into a bag of baking paper, cutting off the very tip from it.
The sugar mass is placed in a paper cone
-
With the finished mass, you can draw any patterns on the shell.
You can decorate the shell with sugar mass by applying any pattern
- After applying the pattern, you need to wait for the paste to dry.
Sequins
Glitter decor is an unusual solution for eggs, but why not experiment, because it turns out very bright and beautiful. The main issue in the context of this technique is glue, because food cannot be coated with industrial formulations. It is better to use raw protein as a base for sequins. Decorating is done in several stages:
-
A pre-boiled egg must be greased with beaten egg white. You can cover the shell completely, half, or draw some kind of pattern.
When applying protein to the shell, you can make a certain pattern or process only part of the egg
- Pour the sequins into a small bowl in a thick layer.
-
While the protein has not yet dried, it is necessary to dip the egg into the sparkles and sprinkle it well with a spoon on all sides.
Eggs coated with protein should be well rolled in glitter
- It remains only to shake off the excess and leave the finished egg to dry.
Foil
Decorating with aluminum foil allows you to create bright Easter eggs with a metallic sheen in minutes. You can use either silver or gold decorative foil. The process is very simple:
- Cut a circle out of foil so that it is enough to completely cover the surface of the shell.
- Place the boiled egg in the center of the circle and squeeze evenly on all sides.
-
To make the foil smoother and more shiny, it must be smoothed. This can be done with any solid object, simply by sliding it over the surface (for example, with scissor handles or a ruler).
To decorate with foil, just wrap the egg in a piece of material and smooth it
Yarn
An egg on which a bright pattern of yarn for knitting is created will look unusual. Here it is worth mentioning that this technique is often used to create decorations based on foam or an empty egg shell. But if you use a safe adhesive, you can transfer the technique to a boiled egg. When deciding to use yarn, you need to be ready for painstaking work:
-
For good fixation, it is necessary to boil the paste and flour or starch. To do this, pour 150 ml of cold water into 3 tablespoons of the selected product and stir until smooth. The resulting turbulence remains to be brewed - you need to pour boiling water in a thin stream and stir constantly until the mass thickens.
Flour paste is a safe way to glue the decor on boiled eggs
- At the top of the egg, you need to fix the beginning of the thread and wait for the paste to dry.
-
Further, gradually painting over the surface of the shell, you need to wrap it with the selected thread until the desired result and filling area are obtained.
When decorating eggs with yarn, you can use any colors and combinations
- The finished egg should dry completely.
Groats, pasta, coffee
With the help of flour or starch paste, you can decorate eggs with any medium-sized decorations - cereals, pasta, coffee beans, sesame seeds, lentils, etc. The process is simple - the shell is smeared with an adhesive and the selected elements are laid on it. And what exactly and how to use - there is nothing to limit your imagination, you can simply cover the surface of the egg with sesame seeds, or you can combine different cereals and grains, creating complex patterns.
You can use different cereals, beans, pasta and coffee beans to decorate Easter eggs.
Decorating eggs for Easter is an interesting activity that can be approached from an unusual perspective. Any elements can be used for decoration, the main thing is to remember about safety, because a boiled egg will need to be eaten later and it is important to keep it fit for human consumption.
