Sometimes I really want to make some kind of wardrobe item with my own hands, but there’s not enough time. In such a case, you will need dress designs that can be made in 15 minutes.

What do you need

To make any of the dresses below, you will need:

  • a piece of fabric (150-300 cm with a width of 140 cm, depending on the style, length and your volumes);
  • spool of thread to match;
  • spool of contrasting thread for basting;
  • needle;
  • a sewing machine (you can also grind parts by hand, but this will take more time);
  • tape measure.

Some of the models that we will look at below will also require cutting out. In this case, pattern paper is added to the necessary tools (you can use a cut of old wallpaper).

Beach dress without seams in 15 minutes

A simple beach dress can be made with just a rectangular stretch of fabric and a pair of straps. One side of the cut will be equal to the length of the dress (from armpit to hem), and the other - two girths of your hips.

The correct length of the straps can be measured by wrapping a measuring tape around your shoulder on top, from the front of the armpit to the back. Don't be afraid to make the straps too long - they are easy to straighten. It is enough to rip a small seam and stitch them again, but already shortening them a little.

If you choose fabric that crumbles at the edges, it is best to pre-process the edges with an overlock (or a zigzag seam on a sewing machine).

Manufacturing is very simple:

  1. Sew the straps to the short sides of the rectangle.

    As a result, you will get a rectangle of fabric with loops at the edges.

  2. The dress is ready! It remains only to put it on correctly.
  3. Place the dress behind your back.
  4. With one side wrapped around your chest, put on one strap.
  5. Repeat with the other strap.

Elegant dress from an old T-shirt without a pattern

To make this dress you will need:

  • plain T-shirt;
  • tulle 150 cm wide. The length of the cut is equal to the planned length of the skirt from the waist, multiplied by two, plus five centimeters;
  • wide (5 cm) elastic band. Its length should be equal to your waist circumference plus three centimeters;
  • wide (5–7 cm) satin ribbon for the belt. Length - at least three waist circumferences;
  • lace. The amount of lace you need depends on your volume and the length of the dress.

Measure the waist circumference in advance and decide on the length of the skirt.

You can go to a party or prom in such a dress.

We will do all the work without a sewing machine:

  1. Fold the whole tulle in several layers so that you can cut the strips comfortably.
  2. Cut the entire tulle into strips 6 cm wide and equal to the length of the cut.

    Try to make neat stripes - the type of skirt depends on them

  3. Sew the elastic to make a ring.

  4. Take your tulle strips and start tying them to the elastic. Pass the strip through the elastic band, fold it in half and tie a neat knot. Make sure that the tulle does not fold in several layers on the elastic.

    Do not pinch the elastic with tulle, otherwise you will get an ugly fold at the waist.

  5. Tie all the tulle strips in this way. You will get a fluffy petticoat.

    You can leave it like this, but we will decorate it with lace for beauty

  6. Now we will cover the shirt with lace. To do this, attach a piece of lace to the shirt, stitch it along the edge of the model with a fine stitch, and cut off the excess.
  7. We will also process the skirt. Sew a rectangular piece of lace (the length is equal to the length of the skirt) to the elastic waist, making gathers. The more you pull the fabric at the seam, the more fluffy the skirt will be. We strongly recommend basing this seam first in order to be able to correct the splendor of the skirt. Then sew the vertical edges of the lace covering. Here you need an even seam, so it is best to use a typewriter.
  8. Sew the T-shirt to the skirt in any way convenient for you. Don't worry if it doesn't work out neatly - we'll cover the waist with a satin ribbon.
  9. After wearing the dress, wrap the satin ribbon around the waistband several times and tie a bow.

One seam dress

A dress that is made with one seam can be made from a 150x250 cm piece of fabric. You will also need two decorative pins or brooches. It is great for a full figure. Measure your waist in advance:

  1. Cut out a square (150x150 cm) and a rectangle (150x70 cm).

    One-size pattern

    It is even difficult to call it a pattern - it does not require special constructions and measurements.

  2. Fold the square twice to define the center. Carefully cut off the corner, thus marking the center.

    Cut off center
    Cut off center

    By folding the fabric twice, you can easily determine the center

  3. Now we recall the school geometry course. We need to find the radius of the circle, which is our waist. Accordingly, the formula is the waist circumference divided by 3.14 (approximately).
  4. Knowing the radius, line up a circle around the center of the cut. The resulting circumference will be the same length as your waist.
  5. Cut out this circle. You will have a large square of fabric with a circular hole in the center. This will be the skirt.

    This piece of fabric will then turn into a skirt.

  6. Fold the square section twice again. You will have a smaller square with a cut corner. Draw a straight arc along the edge opposite the hole you made. Cut off all layers of fabric along this line. This will make the hem of the skirt even, not "shaggy".

    Arc opposite the edge

    This will resemble the pattern of a half-sun skirt.

  7. Now take a rectangular piece of fabric. Fold it in half lengthwise and then widthwise. We again find the center of the cut this way. Don't cut it off - just mark it with chalk.
  8. Expand the rectangular cut. From the found center, set aside a ruler to the left and to the right (in width) - 25 cm each (for size 42-50), 30 cm each (for size 52), 35 cm each (for size 54), 40 cm each (for size 56).

    Postpone length

    This line will then be attached to the waist of the skirt.

  9. Make a straight cut along this line.

    The top of the dress is almost done

  10. Spread the skirt fabric on the table, straightening the circular opening. On top, place a cut for the top of the dress. Baste (with pins or a basting stitch) both edges of the straight cut towards the circle. Then baste the center of the notch. Then you can sew a straight cut to the round hole.

    Sweep top to bottom

    This procedure will require some skill - do not be discouraged if it does not work out exactly the first time

  11. Put on the resulting design. The seam should be at your waist.
  12. Gather the top of the dress over the shoulder to form a loose sleeve. Secure with a pin and repeat on the other side.

    Fix the shoulders

    Instead of a decorative pin, you can simply sew two pieces of fabric, but then this dress will no longer have one seam, but three

Full figure flying dress

This dress can be made from two meters of fabric. Tricotin or a similar strong and elastic material works best. From measurements, only the waist circumference is required:

  1. Cut out a rectangle 160x140 cm.
  2. Fold the cut twice. You will get a rectangle 70x80 cm.
  3. From the wide side, set aside a quarter of the waist. Then along this point from the edge along the wide side, draw a line 60 cm long.

  4. Round the opposite corner with a mold or by eye and cut out. The line doesn't have to be perfectly straight.

    Rounded corner

    The rounded corner will be the edge of the dress

  5. Now the opposite corner (which remained intact) needs to be turned into a neck. To do this, make a rounded cut 40 cm long and 4 cm deep.

    Neckline
    Neckline

    This neckline will give us a wide neckline that looks great on large women.

  6. Unfold our piece of fabric once so that you get a semicircle with a cutout in the center of the top. Remember that 60 cm long stroke? Make it symmetrical on the other side of the neckline. These will be the lines for the side seams.
  7. Sew these straight lines on your machine. Do not go beyond the 60 cm border, otherwise you will sew the hand slot!

    This work will require accuracy - an uneven seam will be noticeable
