It is much more convenient to dry washed things, especially bedding, on the street or on the balcony, so as not to clutter up the apartment. But with the onset of winter, many housewives put wet clothes on the radiators and hang them on the cabinet doors, not daring to take them out into the open air. It is believed that linen dries for a long time in the cold and may even "break". In fact, this drying method has three advantages.

Pleasant aroma of frosty freshness

The fabric in the cold as if absorbs winter freshness. Sleeping on such bed linen is especially sweet. And clothes dried in cold air are more pleasant to wear because they feel crystal clear.

In reality, the frosty freshness we perceive is a complete absence of smell. Airing out at low temperatures, the linen loses all the usual aromas, and the brain, reacting to this olfactory vacuum, forms in the mind an image of purity and freshness.

Fast drying

Many people believe that in the cold, wet clothes practically do not dry out, and the water in them turns into ice. The linen seems to "stiffen" and does not bend. However, when you bring it into the house, it immediately becomes soft and almost dry.

It turns out that solids, like liquids, can evaporate. This phenomenon is called sublimation. That is, the ice also evaporates. The air humidity is low in clear frosty weather, which accelerates evaporation, and the process is even more active in the wind.

The ideal air temperature for drying clothes is just below zero degrees. To dry things quickly, do not hang them close to each other.

It may seem strange, but in winter clothes dry much faster on the balcony than in the room, of course, if we are not talking about hot batteries. But this drying method is fraught with undesirable consequences.

Getting rid of bacteria and dust mites

We all know about the existence of a dust mite: an invisible parasite often settles in our apartments and especially loves bed and upholstered furniture. This microscopic insect is not at all harmless. It causes a number of serious diseases such as allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, atopic dermatitis, conjunctivitis, demodicosis and even Quincke's edema.

The moisture content in the air when drying clothes on heating radiators increases significantly, thereby creating favorable conditions for the life of a dust mite. In the cold, the parasite dies along with most of the dangerous pathogenic bacteria. Therefore, with the onset of cold weather, it is recommended to more often hang baby underwear on the balcony - this way you will additionally protect the health of your baby.

Keep in mind that all the above advantages of drying clothes in the open air in winter are true for clear and dry frosty weather. You should not take your laundry out into the snow, and also pay attention to whether soot is flying on your ropes from the pipes of neighboring houses.
