DIY Christmas tree: master classes and a gallery of the best ideas
Lack of funds, workload and lack of free time to get out for the right purchase, unwillingness to decorate a home with a brutally felled green beauty, or just a thirst to throw out your imagination and decorate the house in an unusual way - this is a list of the reasons why homemade Christmas trees are becoming more and more popular from scrap materials. Making such crafts turns into an exciting and fun activity, in which both adults and children are happy to participate.
DIY step-by-step instructions for making Christmas trees
I received the first decorative Christmas tree made of cardboard, shiny tinsel and chocolates in bright wrappers as a gift more than 10 years ago. I don’t know where my mother’s friend and colleague got this idea, but that year all her family and friends received such sweet jewelry. The Christmas tree wonderfully fit into the overall festive picture, and I got the idea to create something similar next year. The result of the search for homemade Christmas trees was stunned and delighted. There were also gift options, both edible for the New Year's table, and those with which you can safely decorate your home, replacing the usual pine or spruce.
A fragrant tree made from natural materials
The magical aroma and original design of such a panel in the form of a Christmas tree will fill your home with a winter fairy tale and will cheer you up even in the most difficult moments.
You will need:
- A3 sheet of cardboard;
- gold and silver spray paint;
- cones;
- walnuts;
- cutting branches;
- chestnuts;
- cinnamon sticks;
- star anise stars;
- coffee beans;
- large red beads;
- small white beads;
- silver ribbon;
- glue gun;
- scissors;
- ruler;
- simple pencil.
Manufacturing:
-
Prepare the necessary equipment and natural materials.
With pre-prepared material, making a Christmas tree will take no more than an hour
-
Using a ruler and pencil, draw an isosceles triangle on the cardboard so that its height is equal to the height of the sheet.
Carefully trace the sheet so that the sides of the triangle are the same
-
Cut out the triangle carefully.
While preparing natural materials, set the workpiece aside.
-
Put the walnuts on a newspaper and cover with golden paint.
In order not to stain the desktop, while painting decorative elements, lay them out on spread newspaper or other unnecessary paper.
-
Paint half of the cones in gold, the other in silver.
To make the craft brighter, make the cones gold and silver
-
Cover the star anise stars with gold.
Spray with star anise
-
Do the same with the branches.
Branch cuts also need to be gilded
-
Put the cardboard base on the table. In a chaotic manner, glue the silver cones to it first.
Glue decorative elements, starting with the cones
-
Then - golden cones and walnuts.
After the cones, attach the walnuts to the workpiece
-
Place the chestnuts and cinnamon sticks on loose pieces of cardboard.
Fill the voids between the large elements with cinnamon and chestnuts
-
Complete the big picture with star anise, coffee beans and large red beads.
Red beads, star anise and coffee stars can be strengthened both in the gaps between larger elements and directly on their surface
-
Arrange small white beads on the tree in random order.
Arrange small white beads in random order throughout the workpiece
-
Decorate with a few simple silver ribbon bows.
The final step of decorating the Christmas tree is a few bows from a thin silver ribbon
Below I offer another way to create a Christmas tree with natural decorative elements.

Herringbone on the wall of rosemary
An easy-to-make home decoration that is a great alternative to the usual Christmas tree.
You will need:
- thin wooden planks;
- several bunches of fresh rosemary;
- glue gun;
- scissors;
- double-sided masking tape;
- hacksaw for wood.
Manufacturing:
- Take one plank, measure the required length for the base of the Christmas tree, cut the workpiece to the desired size.
-
Cut off the remaining planks, making each one shorter than the previous ones. The height and width of the tree can be adjusted at your discretion.
The number of wooden planks and the height of the tree depends only on you
-
Apply hot glue to the first plank, apply the rosemary sprigs so that the greenery completely covers the tree. Do these steps with all planks.
When gluing greens, try to cover the surface of the plank as much as possible
- After a few minutes, when the glue is completely dry, start attaching the planks to the wall using double-sided tape.
-
Shape the tree from base to top, leaving wide gaps between the planks. To secure the workpieces well on the wall, press down on each plank and hold for 1–2 minutes.
Press the workpieces firmly against the wall to thoroughly strengthen the craft
-
The Christmas tree is ready.
The Christmas tree can be decorated or left in its original form
