Thorny horror stories: why you can't plant trees on the site

Not every one of us, choosing plants to decorate a garden or a personal plot, focuses on folk signs. Meanwhile, many of them strongly advise against planting some trees there. These include the spruce, for some reason it is believed that it has no place on the site, as well as in the vicinity of buildings.

Why is it considered that you can not plant Christmas trees on the site and near the house

Despite its outstanding decorative qualities, thanks to which spruce remains attractive throughout the year, it is highly undesirable to have it near human habitation. There are a number of reasons for this, both objective and easily explained from a logical point of view, and superstitious.

For a number of subjective and objective reasons, it is not recommended to plant a spruce on the site or near the house.

Objective reasons:

The undesirable presence of spruce in the backyard or garden plot, as well as near the house, can be explained logically, since this plant can be really dangerous:

  • The roots of an adult spruce spread far, since the root system is quite ramified, they can reach the foundation of a house or other structure, as well as the communications connected to them (sewage, telephony, fiber-optic cable for the Internet, etc.), while damaging or destroying them.
  • A tall tree (up to 30–40 m or more) not only shades the surrounding area, but can also touch electrical wires, which is fraught with a short circuit and fire.
  • A lonely spruce is often struck by lightning. Due to the presence of essential oils in the needles, it ignites rapidly, the fire easily spreads to neighboring trees or buildings. Careless actions under the spruce canopy will lead to the same result (kindling a brazier, setting fire to garbage, dry grass, etc.).
  • The root system of a large spruce is extensive, but very superficial. A strong hurricane gust of wind can pull a tree out of the ground, falling, it can damage a house and other buildings nearby.
  • The superficial, but dense and branched root system of the Christmas tree sucks out almost all the nutrients and moisture from the soil, so other plant crops can no longer grow.

Signs and superstitions

Popular rumor attributes a lot of misfortunes to people who risked planting a spruce on their own plot:

  • The hostess of the house, near which an evergreen prickly plant grows, will be sterile or, at best, will be able to give birth to exclusively female children.
  • A single woman or a young girl of marriageable age will remain bachelors, since the Christmas trees drive men out of the house and do not let them come close.
  • It is strictly forbidden to have spruce in the yard for young couples (newlyweds), since conifers contribute to the rapid disintegration of marriage for a variety of reasons.
  • Spruce is a very strong energy vampire; it literally sucks out all the vitality from the inhabitants of the house around which it grows. Moreover, they not only constantly get sick, but they are also pursued by a series of failures.
  • There is a critical height of the tree (roof of the house), exceeding which is fraught with the death of the owner or one of the family members.
  • A person who planted a Christmas tree with his own hand will certainly die as soon as the seedling outgrows it in height.

According to popular beliefs, spruce cannot be planted on the site.

I have never noticed any negative aspects from the trees growing on our site (there are three of them). One of them, by the way, is already higher than the house. The only thing is that their needles are extremely stiff and prickly, sometimes they can cause severe pain if they stick into the skin.

You can believe omens and superstitions or not, here everyone decides for himself. If you are scared, but you really want to start a Christmas tree, then you can pick up a miniature dwarf variety, whose growth on the site is not so destructive and dangerous.
