The device and purpose of vestibule doors

Additional doors installed after the first entrance are called vestibules. They have a simpler design than the input ones. The canvas is not equipped with such a layer of insulation as is necessary for the first door, but it is distinguished by a dense porch, strength and resistance to temperature extremes.

Tambour doors can be made of metal and equipped with a layer of small insulation

Tambour cloth can have inserts in the form of a lattice, tempered glass. Deaf options made of metal, wood, plastic doors are practical. The following system elements are also basic:

  • a box, which is installed in the opening and serves to ensure a tight vestibule, fixing the door;
  • hinges can be external or internal, and the choice of a specific option is carried out depending on the type of door opening;
  • fittings in the form of a handle, lock, door peephole and other details are determined depending on the desired functionality of the system;
  • anti-removable pins are mounted in a vertical rack, they serve to protect against unauthorized entry into the room.

Thermal insulation layer prevents cold penetration into the room

Vestibule doors are often simpler than full-fledged entrance systems. As a result, the doors are optimal as additional protection of the entrance of an apartment building from the cold. With the help of such canvases, you can fence off a small section of apartments in a long corridor of a residential building. The owners of a complex of offices in multi-storey buildings often separate their premises from others with a vestibule door.

Varieties and characteristics of structures

The classification of vestibule doors is often carried out depending on the version of the door leaf. There are three main types: lattice, solid or canvases with glass or lattice inserts. The first type is a wrought iron or simple lattice, which serves only to prevent unauthorized entry into the room. Solid canvases are as reliable and durable as possible, sometimes they are supplemented with inserts in the form of lattices or glass. Before choosing, it is worth determining the main purpose of installing such a door: safety or strengthening the thermal insulation of the entrance.

Metal doors with glass are optimal for the entrance of an apartment building

Metal models are as strong and durable as possible, while plastic ones look modern and have good thermal insulation. Simple wooden doors look aesthetically pleasing and are characterized by a variety of options. These materials are the main materials from which tambour systems are made. When choosing, take into account the properties of the material, as well as the following features:

  • the size of the canvas without the box should be less than the parameters of the opening in height by about 7 cm, and in width - by 4–5 cm;
  • the degree of sound and thermal insulation of the structure must correspond to the required level of protection of the room;
  • direction of movement of the leaf: according to safety requirements, doors opening outward are optimal;
  • the thickness of a wooden door should be at least 50 mm, and models made of metal and plastic can be thin, but insulated.

Metal double-leaf vestibule doors

For an opening in the vestibule of an entrance or corridor, areas between apartments, double-leaf door models made of metal are optimal. Structures can have two identical swing leaves. Similar options are used for openings more than 1.2 m wide. If the parameters of the opening are less, then models are suitable in which one sash has a width of 700-800 mm, and the other is up to 500 mm. The second door is usually fixed with a latch, that is, it is fixed, but if necessary, it can be easily opened.

Metal doors are durable and have a service life of several decades

The advantages of metal doors with two leaves are as follows:

  • strength and resistance to impact, deformation;
  • the presence of a layer of insulation reduces heat loss in the room;
  • a variety of options in different colors;
  • the ability to adjust the width of the opening by opening / closing the sash.

The negative feature of metal structures lies in their high cost. Models without insulation, consisting only of a metal frame and a canvas, can clap loudly when driving and need to install a closer.

Single wing metal access doors

Doors consisting of one leaf, frame and accessories are called single-leaf doors, they are suitable for openings up to 900 mm wide. Simple options are presented in the form of a canvas with a frame, but without insulation. Such a door with a width of 700 mm and more is suitable for well-heated rooms and is used as the first entrance, but at the same time an additional insulated vestibule system is installed.

Single-leaf metal doors are compact and more affordable than double-leaf doors

Single-leaf metal entrance doors have such advantages as:

  • compactness and laconic design;
  • affordable cost;
  • ease of repair;
  • ease of installation.

Simple metal canvases are not suitable for openings over 900–1000 mm wide. Models without insulation do not provide good thermal insulation and protection from street noise.

Plastic or metal doors with inserts

Tempered glass often complements vestibule doors made of metal or plastic. In the first case, the structure is an insulated metal door with a window with or without a lattice. Plastic doors are lightweight compared to metal doors and have a high degree of thermal insulation. Both options look aesthetically pleasing and complement the main entrance door.

Glass is often complemented by a lattice, which can be curly, forged

The advantages of doors with inserts are expressed in the following qualities:

  • penetration of light into the space of the vestibule;
  • control of visitors to the entrance;
  • variety of models;
  • simple installation and easy maintenance.

If a large glass of the usual type is installed in the door, and not tempered or triplex, then there is a high probability of breaking. Models with durable glass, lattice and high-quality frame have a high cost.

Wooden blind doors

Tambour wood canvases are an inexpensive and beautiful option that is suitable for many rooms, and most common in apartment buildings. Pine wood can serve as the basis for such canvases, since oak and birch are more expensive with the same high characteristics and a service life of tens of years. The canvas can be with panels of different shapes or with glass inserts. Doors can be painted or varnished, and leatherette upholstery is also common.

Luxury houses often have luxurious wooden doors with a variety of inserts and decorations.

The advantages of wood doors are as follows:

  • environmental friendliness of the material;
  • variety of design options;
  • good sound insulation.

The main disadvantage of wooden vestibule doors is low resistance to moisture and mechanical stress. Products require careful use, cleaning with wood products.

Installation of doors in the vestibule

The exact installation technology depends on the parameters, type and material of the door. There are universal steps that allow you to mount the canvas in a rectangular opening. To work, you need the following tools:

  • screwdriver and drill;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • wedges;
  • gun with polyurethane foam;

Position the hinges correctly during installation

The installation of single-leaf structures is carried out using a technology similar to the installation of ordinary interior doors. Hinges are pre-selected, for example, overhead, as well as a handle and a lock, if necessary.

If you need to install double-leaf canvases, then you should hang each canvas as carefully as possible, place the hinges extremely accurately and at the same level. In both cases, the door frame is pre-assembled, the pillars or cross member are shortened, if required.

The main stages of installing doors in the vestibule are as follows:

  1. A box is installed in the aligned opening, fixing and leveling it with wedges.
  2. The cracks between the wall and the box are sealed with polyurethane foam, fixed with anchor bolts, and after the foam dries, they continue to work.
  3. On a vertical stand, about 20 cm each step back from above and below and the loops are attached.
  4. The canvas is hung on the hinges, checking the evenness with a level.
  5. The lock and other accessories can be installed after installation. If the lock or handle is mortise, then holes are made in advance.
  6. The installed canvas must be opened / closed several times, making sure that the canvas does not touch the box.

Features of operation and repair of the vestibule door

Any doors need periodic troubleshooting, cleaning, regular inspection, which should be done about once a month. Maintenance involves cleaning the door with products intended for the material from which the canvas is made. For example, glasses are cleaned with special sprays and a soft cloth. Difficult stains can be removed with soapy water, and metal or wood canvases can be painted.

Tools and materials for repair are selected depending on the type of breakdown. Painting involves the use of a brush or a small roller, and the adjustment of mechanisms and the unscrewing of self-tapping screws are carried out with a screwdriver, screwdriver. The building level will help determine the evenness of the sagging canvas.

Repair is also one of the processes carried out when a breakdown occurs. The following problems are common:

  1. Cracks or dents on plastic doors cannot be eliminated on their own and in this case the product is replaced with a new one.
  2. A broken handle or lock, damaged hinges are carefully removed by unscrewing the screws with a screwdriver and removing the door from the hinges. In place of the old parts, new ones are mounted with the same parameters.
  3. If the blade touches the box when driving, then tighten the hinges with a screwdriver. Depending on the place of contact between the box and the door, the upper or lower hinges are tightened.
  4. If a decorative panel has peeled off in a metal insulated door, then it must be tightened into place with screws.
  5. A cracked glass unit in a plastic construction does not require a complete door replacement. The installation of the new glass is carried out by the specialists of the company engaged in the manufacture of plastic windows and doors.
  6. To prevent loud knocking when closing the system, a thin rubber seal should be mounted along the edge of the box. To do this, remove the protective film from one side of the tape and fix the material along the inner perimeter of the box.

Doors to the entrance vestibule are optional, but require no less careful selection and correct installation than the entrance structures. This will provide comfort on the site in front of the apartments and reduce heat loss.
