How the drug works

Sinulox belongs to the combined antibacterial drugs, which is prescribed by veterinarians more often than other drugs in this group. It contains the following active ingredients:

  • amoxicillin (the main active substance) - a semi-synthetic antibiotic from the genus of penicillins, blocks the activity of bacterial enzymes and contributes to the death of the pathogenic microorganisms themselves;
  • clavulanic acid (an additional active substance) helps the antibiotic action, it destroys the resistance of bacteria to the antibiotic and prevents pathogens from developing resistance to amoxicillin.

The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid has a fairly wide range of action and is effective against many dangerous bacteria, for example, against streptococci, corynebacteria, salmonella.

Sinulox has no toxic effect, it is excreted from the body by the kidneys with urine and the gallbladder with bile. According to the system of safety standards, the drug is not considered hazardous (4th hazard class according to GOST 12.1.007).

How to use Sinulox in cats correctly

Sinulox is effective for bacterial infections, for viral diseases it is powerless. A specialist can accurately determine the causative agent of the infection using research. Therefore, before treating your cat with Sinulox, show it to your veterinarian. Uncontrolled use of antibiotics can harm your pet. Sinulox is prescribed for the following diseases caused by bacteria:

  • infections of the bronchopulmonary system;
  • pustular skin lesions;
  • diseases of the genitourinary system;
  • joint lesions;
  • abscesses;
  • purulent rhinitis;
  • diseases of the digestive system;
  • diseases of the oral cavity;
  • umbilical infections in kittens;
  • diseases of the larynx and trachea.

Also, Sinulox can be prescribed by a veterinarian after surgery to prevent the development of infections, for example, after castration or sterilization of the animal.

It is not recommended to use Sinulox in cats that have previously been found to be hypersensitive to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, or to the auxiliary elements that make up this drug.

Depending on the severity and severity of the disease, from the current state of the pet, the specialist can choose a tablet form or injections (injections) of Sinulox for treatment.

Tablet form

Sinulox in tablet form is prescribed orally.

Sinulox tablets are given to cats by hand or mixed with food. According to the instructions, food intake does not affect the action of the active ingredients of the drug, but it is still recommended to give the drug after meals in order to avoid the development of side effects. It is not recommended to combine taking the drug with milk, it neutralizes the effect of the antibiotic. But with butter you can:

  1. Crush the tablet.
  2. Mix with a little butter.
  3. Freeze the lump slightly and give to the pet.

If on a full stomach it is not possible to feed the cat with a pill, then you need to wait until she is well hungry and give the medicine with a small amount of your favorite food.

Sinulox tablets are well absorbed by the cat's digestive system, and the concentration of the substance in the blood required for treatment is reached after 12 hours.

Table: doses of the drug Sinulox when taken orally

Cat weight, kg The number of Sinulox tablets per cat twice a day
Tablets 50 mg, pcs Tablets 250 mg, pcs
Up to 2 1/2 -
3-5 one -
6-9 2 -
10-13 3 -
14-18 4 4/5

Your cat may not want to voluntarily eat the pill despite your best efforts, tidbits, and persuasions. There are methods to force-feed the medication to your cat. You will need an assistant. Here are some tips to help you treat your pet:

  • Fix the cat with a diaper (blanket), open the mouth with two fingers, push the pill into the animal's throat as deep as possible. After that, you can pour water from a syringe without a needle in small parts into the cat's mouth.
  • Take the cat by the scruff, in this position its mouth will reflexively open and you can push the pill into it.
  • Powder the required tablet dose and dilute with water or other liquid, not dairy products. Next, fill a syringe without a needle with the diluted medicine. Slide the tip into the cat's mouth from the side, inject the medicine into the mouth.

Possible side effects

In the event of allergic manifestations (sneezing, swelling, difficulty breathing), the use of the medication should be discontinued and a veterinarian should be consulted for symptomatic treatment. Allergies can begin both immediately after administration and several hours / days after the start of therapy, so the entire treatment period requires increased attention from the pet owner.

When prescribing the drug Sinulox, side effects may occur, among which the most common (according to the owners' reviews):

  • nausea;
  • upset stool;
  • lethargy;
  • loss of appetite.

Overdose

When treated in accordance with the recommendations of the veterinarian, an overdose of the drug should not occur. If you suspect that the dose has been exceeded, stop treatment and consult a specialist for advice.

Drug injections

Injections are usually prescribed by a doctor when the cat, due to age (too small a kitten) or general condition (weakness, vomiting), cannot take pills. The injections are usually performed by a veterinarian at the clinic, but it is possible to perform at home if you have the appropriate skills.

Sinulox RTU suspension is injected into the muscle or under the skin of cats. On average, treatment is carried out for 3-5 days, in severe cases, the course is increased to 10 days, and in the case of an exacerbation of a chronic disease - up to 28 days.

The suspension is not mixed with water or other drugs. When water gets into the bottle, the drug will acquire a brown tint, and it can no longer be used.

When choosing a syringe, the following should be taken into account: the oil suspension is thick, therefore syringes with thin needles (insulin) are not suitable for it. It is recommended to take a syringe with a volume of 1 ml or more.

General notes on subcutaneous and intramuscular injection:

  • Do not inject into the injured area.
  • Heat the medicine to about 40 degrees before the injection.
  • Always use sterile dry instruments (syringes, needles).
  • Always check that you inject your cat (drug name, expiry date).
  • Do not mix several medicines in one syringe.
  • Be sure to shake the bottle well before use when using the suspension.
  • Do not inject more than 1.5 ml into one place at a time. If the volume required for treatment is larger, divide it into several injections.
  • Draw only a single dose of medication into the syringe.
  • Before the injection, "squeeze" air out of the syringe. For this you need:

    1. Draw up the drug into a syringe.
    2. Turn the syringe vertically with the needle up.
    3. Press the plunger until a drop of medication appears at the tip of the needle.
  • Do not allow the needle to enter the blood vessel, this is critical when administering oil suspensions.
  • For intramuscular injection, inject Sinulox suspension slowly.
  • After injection, massage the injection site.

Please note that the drug from the opened bottle is suitable for use for no more than a month. If a month has passed, the medicine should be disposed of.

Sinulox RTU subcutaneous injection

Despite the fact that Sinulox can be injected into the muscle according to the instructions, it is still better for cats to inject the drug subcutaneously. The injection in the thigh can be very painful.

A subcutaneous injection, as a rule, is performed at the withers of the animal, lifting the skin up and introducing the needle into the resulting fold.

For the procedure, it is advisable to involve an assistant who will hold the cat.

Stages of subcutaneous injection:

  1. Secure your cat, preferably on a flat surface, such as a desk table. If the cat is calm, then you can sit it on your lap.
  2. With your left hand, take the cat by the withers, pull the skin upwards to form a fold.
  3. Prepare the insertion needle so that the angle is approximately 45 degrees to the spine.
  4. Pierce the skin and inject the drug.

Intramuscular injection

Intramuscular injections are given when, for some reason, the cat does not eat pills. In addition, it is believed that the penetration of the drug into the tissues during intramuscular administration is faster, and accordingly, the drug effect will appear faster than from subcutaneous injection.

The procedure for an intramuscular injection:

  1. An intramuscular injection is also best done with a companion who will hold and distract the cat.
  2. First, locate the injection site, usually your pet's thigh.
  3. Find a muscle; for this, feel the thigh. The muscle is the place where you need to hit with a needle, but it is categorically not recommended to get into the bone and joint.
  4. To relax the cat, you can lightly pat her on the thigh before giving the injection.
  5. With an intramuscular injection, the depth of entry of the needle into the muscle is approximately 2 cm, no more.

Features of the use of the antibiotic Sinulox in kittens, pregnant and lactating cats

Cats "in position" are also prescribed Sinulox, if there is evidence. The dosage is calculated as for adult animals, depending on the weight of the pet. It is believed that Sinulox does not affect the development of the fetus, but still do not prescribe medication to your cat on your own - consult your veterinarian.

Kittens are also treated with Sinulox. It may be difficult to determine the dose for them due to their low weight. In this situation, preference is given to pills if the kitten already knows how to eat. Only an experienced veterinarian can calculate the dose of Sinulox suspension.

But when prescribing a drug to a nursing cat, you need to weigh the pros and cons very well. Sinulox passes into milk, and kittens will also receive this medicine. If a lactating cat still needs an antibiotic, for example, if she has postpartum mastitis, it may be necessary to take care of the selection of replacement food for the kittens during the treatment of their mother.

The use of Sinulox with other drugs

The antibiotic interacts well with many drugs, and the veterinarian can also prescribe the cat, for example, taking vitamin complexes at the same time as Sinulox. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of using various forms of the drug:

  • for Sinulox tablets, simultaneous administration of other drugs is possible;
  • for injections, mixing any drugs in one injection is prohibited;
  • simultaneous oral administration of, for example, vitamins and Sinulox injections is allowed.

Sinulox and other penicillin antibiotics should not be taken together with tetracycline antibiotics and sulfanilamide drugs, as they can reduce the effect of penicillin.

Storage conditions

Tablets and the suspension stored at a positive temperature of less than 25 on the C in the dry dark place away from food and children. It is recommended to place bottles with suspension on the refrigerator door.

Expiration date - 2 years from the date of issue. It is believed that after the expiration date indicated on the package, antibiotic tablets, if stored properly, can be used. If you have expired medications, consult your doctor before using. It is strongly not recommended to use vials for injection with an expired shelf life.

The cost of the drug Sinulox

Sinulox is a drug exclusively for animals, it is sold in veterinary pharmacies and pet stores, its cost is higher than similar antibiotics sold in pharmacies for humans.

Table: average cost of the drug

Existing analogues

There are many drugs similar to Sinulox, these are antibiotics, in which the active ingredients are amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. You can use them only after consulting a veterinarian, since the amount of active substances in analogues differs from Sinulox, and you can incorrectly calculate the dose.

Examples of analogues that can be bought, including in ordinary pharmacies:

  • Amoxiclav, Medoklav, Flemoklav, Augmentin - drugs for people, contain amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, are available in tablets and in the form of a suspension for oral administration or a powder for making a suspension for injection into a vein. Sold by prescription in pharmacies.
