Why you shouldn't give old things to churches and shelters
Charity is always good. If you are willing to donate things to the needy, you can only be praised. Many people take their belongings to churches and orphanages with this intention. But the people believe that this should not be done.
Why you can't give things away in churches and shelters
According to esotericists, giving away your things is fraught in principle. It is believed that the wearer gives the clothes and other items some of their energy. When a person gives a thing to another, the new owner takes this energy for himself. Some even argue that a communication channel is formed through which the energy of the former owner is transferred to the current one. However, this explanation speaks not of churches and orphanages in particular, but of charity in general.
But there are also rational reasons why churches and orphanages should be avoided when there is a desire to help those in need. The main problem is that your things may not reach them. There is a simple rule - the more authorities and people are involved in the transfer of things, the less the addressee will get. But both churches and shelters are not charitable organizations - they do not have a special internal routine that would regulate the flow of things from volunteers to those in need.
Old things donated to a church or orphanage may not reach a person in need
How are things in the church? The distribution of material donations is usually handled by parishioners - ordinary people who do not participate in the management of the church. Nobody elected them, they have neither job description nor work scheme. The percentage of rogues here is quite high, so your belongings will most likely go to the relatives and friends of such a layman, rather than people who really need it.
What about the shelters? Things are no better in orphanages. As with churches, your donation can be collected (in part or in whole) by the shelter staff. Orphans may not even see these things. And in general, the attitude towards donations in most orphanages is not the best - often things just lie in a heap for several months, because there is no one to disassemble them.
How to give things to those in need
There are many other ways to help people in need. It is best to transfer things directly to the addressee - the fewer organizations and intermediaries are involved, the higher the likelihood that the poor person will actually receive your things.
First, ask around your friends. Perhaps one of them knows or is related to a needy family. Then you can chat with grandmothers at the entrance - talkative old women are always aware when poor people appear somewhere. If such a search did not give anything, contact the local shelter - a place where people in difficult life situations can get shelter and food. Many shelters accept material aid in the form of clothing. There you can personally meet a person who needs your help, and transfer things to him without intermediaries at all.
Homeless people flock to shelters seeking help
Even if you haven't found a single poor person, don't rush to throw things away. Textile recycling is a modern and sustainable approach that is supported by more and more clothing corporations. One example is H&M. If there are large stores in your city accepting old textiles, contact them - and you will contribute to improving the environment, and (possibly) get a discount.
Unfortunately, many cunning businessmen profit from an honest desire to help other people. Therefore, when doing charity work, try to give things directly into the hands of the needy - otherwise he may not see them.
