Distinctive features of block house and production technology

Before proceeding with the choice of a block house for the exterior decoration of a bath, a few words should be said about what kind of material it is and how it is produced in order to understand how much its advantages will be suitable for our building.

House block is much stronger and stronger than a log, so it will reliably serve you for a long time. This material receives such properties due to the processing technology used in the production of wood. Species of conifers are especially common - pine, spruce, larch is also popular. Since the house block is used mainly for the exterior decoration of the bath, the property of coniferous wood to release resin at high temperatures is not taken into account. In addition, the material manufacturing technology solves this issue. It consists in a radical shrinkage of wood, in which the moisture inside the board reaches a maximum of 15 percent of the original. This gives additional density, which means strength, and also resistance to the effects of environmental factors, harmful insects and bacteria, deformation over time.

A blockhouse is a board that is flat on one side and that on the other. What imitates natural wood - convex.

The thickness of the blockhouse profile, depending on the need, can be 22, 32 or 42 mm, the width of the board used in the exterior decoration is 130-230 mm, and the length varies from one and a half to four meters. If you decide to order a block house from the manufacturer, carefully measure the length of the walls of the bath outside: you can order the required dimensions, and this will save you from unnecessary scraps, and, accordingly, unnecessary financial costs.

When buying a block house in a store, you can also choose a suitable profile size, since this material is available on the market in a huge assortment. And not only in size, but also in color, which will help you make the most optimal choice that can please the eye and heart.

Block house varieties: how not to make a mistake when choosing

It is the starting material that determines the quality of the finished product, which means its properties, characteristics and appearance.

There are two types of block-house - "under a bar" and "under a log". They are identical in their properties, the difference is only in the appearance of the surface.

There are also four most common varieties of block house: extra, classic (A), economy (B) and grade C. They, like the species, differ from each other only externally, due to some minor features. Technologically processing of boards is carried out in the same way for the entire array. Sorting and sorting according to quality is carried out after the end of the production process.

The differences between the varieties are as follows:

  • "extra" grade with a perfectly smooth surface, without any defects in the wood, and corresponds to the dimensions that were declared, without errors;
  • the "classic" grade has some non-critical deviations in comparison with the "extra" grade: small knots up to 3 mm in size, no more than 2 pieces per running meter;
  • the "economy" grade allows minor damage on the outer surface: knots no more than 30 mm, in an amount of a maximum of 4 pieces per running meter;
  • grade C - the number and size of knots are not limited.

At the same time, the division into varieties affects only the price, but not in any way the quality and technical characteristics of the block house.

Vinyl block house

This finishing material is relatively new, but has already become very popular on the market. It, like a wood block house, has its own advantages, and in appearance is practically indistinguishable from natural wood, moreover, it is in no way inferior in environmental friendliness. Vinyl block house (siding) also has a wide range of colors.

The advantages of vinyl are as follows:

  • it is not susceptible to moisture absorption;
  • fire resistant;
  • can be stored for a long time;
  • much lighter than a block house made of wood;
  • without additional processing, withstands temperature drops from -50 to +50 degrees;
  • does not fade in the sun;
  • additional special processing of the material and maintenance is not required;
  • the cost of a vinyl block house and its installation is lower than a wooden one;
  • the insulation of walls lined with a vinyl block house from the outside can be carried out using any materials.

Technology of finishing the walls of the bath with a wooden blockhouse outside

Despite the advantages of a vinyl block house, wood still remains a fairly popular material, since it differs not only in beauty, but also in certain properties, thanks to which it is so often wanted to be used for decorating and decorating a bath outside. While the process is painstaking, it is also fun. And since this work requires some professional knowledge, it should be considered in stages, paying attention to each step.

The main requirement for the material used for the external walls of the building is density, strength and durability. So when choosing a block house, stop at pine, spruce, larch or cedar wood: these trees fully meet the stated requirements.

Before you start finishing the bath, you should carefully prepare the working surface of the walls: install a waterproofing layer and give the block house time to acclimatize. After the waterproofing is done, a vertical crate is made, its step should be about 70 centimeters. On top of the lathing, thermal insulation, a moisture-insulating layer and again the lathing are mounted. This "pie" will help to provide ventilation in the room.

Now, after the wall insulation work has been completed, you can fix the block house directly.

From which side - from below or from above - you start fixing the material, it does not matter. The main thing is that the spike of the upper profile enters from above into the groove of the lower one, this will exclude the ingress of water into the grooves. In order to prevent surface deformation under the influence of temperature changes and atmospheric precipitation, leave a gap of several millimeters between the boards.

The step-by-step process of fixing block house profiles is as follows:

  • drill holes in the boards;
  • attach the block house to the crate with self-tapping screws;
  • fasten the boards to each other with a tenon-groove connection.

Make sure that the screw is positioned so that the next board will hide it.

In finishing work, the bolk house is very good because it is completely prepared for installation: grooves and spikes have already been made in it according to strictly verified dimensions, and you do not have to spend time on additional processing of the board or timber.

Final processing of wood block house after installation

After the work on the exterior decoration of the bathhouse with a block house is completed, processing should be carried out that will protect the material from the effects of external factors, such as dust, dirt, grease and moisture, during operation. To do this, prime the base of the wood and cover the top with varnish, construction wax or colorless paint. There are many products of this type on the market, and you just have to choose what is suitable in terms of price and quality.

The primer will provide additional protection against moisture and insects, and varnish and paint will give the wood of the block house an aesthetic beautiful look, shine, show the structure of the wood and increase the life of the cladding. In addition, the blockhouse after that does not require special cleaning, it is enough to wipe it with a damp cloth.

Paint over the spikes and grooves of the boards with special care so that the unpainted places do not become visible later, which can harm the wall during operation.

After the surface of the block house has dried well, go over it with sandpaper, which will remove fine pile from the surface of the board, which appears after applying the first layer. Then apply another layer of varnish or colorless paint.

It should be especially noted that the processing should be carried out in the warm season, in sunny weather. Cold can significantly extend the drying time of primers and paints and varnishes, and precipitation can negate all work.
