When is it possible to replace glass with your own hands

A man without special skills in replacing glass in an interior door will not be scared if he deals with such products as:

• domestic veneered door of economy class;
• a door with a glass insert fixed with glazing beads;
• collapsible business class door.

The damaged glass is easily removed from the domestic veneered door of the economy class. The empty opening in the domestic model of the door is measured with a tape measure, and a new glass piece ordered from the workshop is carefully inserted from above. After these manipulations, silicone gel is distributed around the perimeter of the glass, the excess of which is removed with a rag.

Once my father, a builder by profession, in a hurry forgot to lower the ruler inside the cell where the glass used to be. How to replace glass in an interior door

A good substitute for a cracked glass insert in an interior door can be:

• organic glass that does not break, but is easily scratched;

• simple glass as a traditional and budget option (it is simply ordered to a glazier, having learned the dimensions of the old glass insert);

  

  A door with ordinary glass inserts is in demand, despite its simple appearance

• double-folded wood-fiber board, covered with decorative film for furniture, but at the same time unable to give the door a special aesthetics and serve for many years;

  

  In place of the glass, a piece of fiberboard covered with a film looks great

• plywood, which when glued will provide the same benefits as fibreboard and is most often used as a temporary option.

To replace a damaged old glass with a new one, you need to find the following tools and devices:

Replacing the glass insert in the interior door is performed step by step:

1. The door leaf is lifted and removed from its hinges, and then placed on the floor or a large table.

2. Using pliers, a chisel and a hammer, the glass clips are removed from the door.
3. All pieces of the decorative insert are removed from the opening, up to the glass chips. In order not to be cut by shrapnel, they work only after putting on tight gloves.
4. The recess for the glass insert is freed from the gasket and scraped with sandpaper, removing the sealant layer.

5. The opening where the glass insert was previously located is measured with a tape measure. At the same time, it is taken into account that the parameters of the new product should be 3-4 cm less than the dimensions of the bed, because, in addition to glass, it will be necessary to accommodate a sealant in the opening. The measurement data is provided to the glazier.

6. As soon as the master hands over the finished glass, the recess under it is coated with silicone sealant. A gasket is put on the edges of the glass insert.
7. The product is inserted into the opening. Sealant is carefully applied around the perimeter of the bed again.

8. The glass is fixed in the opening using glazing beads with decorative nails or other elements.

9. After 2 hours, which are needed for the sealant to dry, the door is put back in place.

Dismantling the interior door before replacing the glass

When glass and wood in an interior door are connected into a single whole without glazing beads or other devices, the glass is changed only after the door leaf has been completely disassembled. This operation is carried out in stages:

1. They are looking for plugs on the door. It is they who mask the fasteners, for example, screws or bolts.

2. The door leaf is removed from the hinges and placed on the floor with the caps facing up.
3. On one side of the door, the plugs are removed, the fasteners are unscrewed with a screwdriver or screwdriver.
4. Only one side of the door leaf is carefully removed from the structure. Immediately after this, the glass insert is taken from the bed.

5. New glass is installed in the opening. If the insert does not sit in the stock, then its edges are treated with soapy water, which will create a slip and simplify the task. The door leaf is assembled in the reverse order.
