Soviet car industry: cars produced in a single copy
Now many people criticize the Soviet era and say that there was nothing progressive at that time, so young people do not quite have the right opinion about that time. Despite all the disadvantages, the bygone era had a number of advantages. Scientists and engineers developed modern cars that were ahead of their time, were produced in a single copy and did not go into mass production.
GAZ-A-AERO
This car was released in 1934, designed by A. Nikitin. He almost completely copied Ford A. The car did not in any way resemble its predecessor GAZ-A. The main advantages of GAZ-A-AERO: speed up to 106 km / h, in contrast to GAZ-A, which had it at 80 km / h, and fuel consumption is 25% less. The body had a wooden frame and metal lining, the rear wheels were covered with fairings. The car did not have bumpers, footpegs and a spare wheel attached to the outside of the body.

GAZ-SG1 "Victory Sport"
A. Smolin has developed a sports concept based on Pobeda. Thanks to the lightweight duralumin aerodynamic body and the new GAZ-SG1 engine, Pobeda Sport showed excellent speed. In total, several copies were released, which set three all-Union speed records.

ZIS-112
This is the next sports car. At first, it was equipped with an engine from the ZIS-110, the power of which was not enough, since the car turned out to be heavy. Later, a more powerful engine was developed, but the weight of the car also increased. Despite this, the ZIS-112 accelerated to 210 km / h, but its handling was poor.

Moskvich 408 "Tourist"
The worker Moskvich 408 can still be found today in the Russian outback. Few people know that in 1964 Moskvich "Tourist" was released. The main feature of the car is the coupe-convertible body. The plastic removable roof was inconvenient, it did not fit in the trunk, so it had to be left in the garage.

US 0288 "Compact"
In 1988, Soviet automakers created the first mini-car. With a fuel consumption of only 6 liters per 100 km, NAMI 0288 "Compact" developed a speed of up to 150 km / h. He had an on-board computer. At the international exhibition in Japan, "Compact" took 5th place among similar cars, but the collapse of the USSR did not allow to put the production of the car on the conveyor.

Moskvich-2144 "Istra"
This car had an aluminum body. Its interesting feature is that the side windows did not open. Air conditioning and small vents were used to ventilate the cabin. In addition, the Moskvich-2144 "Istra" was equipped with an ABS system, airbags and other innovations. Vehicle speed readings, as well as information from night vision cameras, were displayed on the windshield using a projector.

Despite the inertia and conservatism of the Soviet car industry, engineers and scientists were constantly developing new car models. Many of them had good characteristics and attractive appearance, but for a number of reasons, they did not start mass production.
