5 ways to add light to a room that rarely gets the sun
The lack of lighting in the room not only makes the room uncomfortable, but also badly affects the emotional state of the residents. You can fix this situation using several available techniques.
More lamps
If it is difficult to fill a dark room with sunlight, then you need to use an artificial one. Chandeliers, wall lamps, built-in lamps and LED strips make it possible to evenly distribute the light throughout the room. You can even highlight the furniture and the floor - so the room will look more advantageous.
When choosing a chandelier, you should give preference to those models whose shades are directed upwards. In this case, the light will bounce off the ceiling, completely filling the room. This will make it appear lighter.
Light floor, walls and furniture
The lighter the walls, floor and ceiling, the more light and space there will be in the room. At the same time, it is not at all necessary to paint everything white. Warm colors are well suited: beige, shades of blue, green, pink, gray. You can also decorate all surfaces with one color - this will erase the boundaries between them and visually increase the room and the level of illumination in it.
Colors with a pearlescent sheen give a feeling of airiness and lightness, better reflect the sun's rays.
As for furniture, there is also a ban on dark. The best options are white, beige, creamy, light gray. Bright details will help to diversify the interior: a colored carpet, pillows of the most daring shades and the like.
Shiny surfaces
Smooth reflective surfaces such as metal, glass, mirrored walls or mosaics enhance the illumination of the room well. But surfaces with a pronounced texture and relief, on the contrary, absorb light.
Therefore, in a dark room, you need to abandon niches, multi-level ceilings, plaster on the walls and wallpaper with a large pattern. A simple glossy ceiling, glass table, furniture with mirrored inserts are suitable here.
Glossy furniture surfaces will also work well.
Lots of glass and mirrors
There is another working technique that will help add light to the room, this is mirrors. Ideally place a wardrobe with mirrored doors, or simply hang a large mirror in front of a window. If this is not possible, then the wall opposite to the window opening should be as empty and light as possible.
Several mirror objects can be used instead of one large mirror. For example, hang a mirror panel or picture, make mirror slopes. Glass is also suitable for decor.
Chandeliers, frames for photographs and paintings, glass doors and much more - all this will shimmer in the sun, making the room brighter.
Less junk
An important principle for decorating dark rooms is a minimum of things and objects.
All these ottomans, countless cabinets, figurines, newspapers, sofa cushions and the like only draw back the light, making the room look worse.
The more space and free surfaces there is in the room, the lighter and brighter it will become.
