A look into the past: how the Christmas tree was decorated about 75 years ago

Collections of old Christmas tree decorations hold a special place in every family, because they keep the story of the childhood of grandparents. Moreover, these relics can tell a lot about the past of our country. We will talk about the most popular Soviet toys that could be found in every home.
Balls like lamps

During the war and post-war times, there was no money for expensive Christmas tree decorations, and then little toys were produced. But this did not diminish the desire of the people to cheerfully celebrate the New Year. Therefore, ordinary light bulbs were used, which were painted and decorated in the New Year's theme. Large glass factories even blown batches of balls according to the pattern of ordinary lamp bulbs, just without a piston.
Star with hammer and sickle

Within the framework of Soviet propaganda, it was perhaps the most popular symbol not only for Christmas tree decorations. It was possible to find glass products, and options from porcelain, cardboard or wood. A large star was installed on the top, and small stars found their place in the crown of the New Year's beauty.
Wire and foil sailboat

In those days, it was very easy to find foil and wire among industrial waste.
Most often these were sailboats, but there could be butterflies, flowers and airplanes. The matter was limited only by the imagination of the artists.
Snowflakes from the newspaper

In the conditions of the post-war shortage, newspapers were also used. The easiest way was to make snowflakes and decorate an impromptu Christmas tree with them. Around the same time, windows and mirrors began to be decorated with snowflakes.
Orderlies dogs

The orderlies' dogs became real military heroes, stories about them were often told to each other. In addition, they have become a symbol of kindness, devotion and heroism. That is why cotton figurines with their image have become very popular.
Parachutists

In the romance of that time, military professions occupied a special place: tankmen, artillerymen, pilots. Christmas tree decorations with these characters were made everywhere. But the most popular were parachutists. It was very easy to make such a toy - you just had to attach a fabric "parachute" to any figure in the form.
Toys made of glass beads and tubes

Many, for sure, will remember toys made of glass beads and tubes. Multicolored and massive, they would look great even on a modern Christmas tree. According to legend, such mounting Christmas tree decorations began to be made at Soviet factories after the war, when the Germans showed this technology to our craftsmen.
