We live outside the city in a private house and take care of the site ourselves, clean the snow, knock down icicles, deal with ice. I have already tried several methods of dealing with frozen ice on the porch and will tell you which of these are not worth using, and which you can try.

The traditional option is to pour boiling water over the ice. It can only be used when the ice is very thin - 1-3 mm. But if the ice is thick, then boiling water will not harm it, only on the contrary it will freeze more.

In addition, even for thin ice with a large area of ice, too much boiling water may be needed. Melting water and boiling water will flow from the porch, water can get under the house, which should not be allowed. So this method is not very good in practice.

She really copes: the ice becomes perforated, non-slip and slowly melts. But there are also unpleasant moments: salt sticks to the soles of boots and gets into the house, sticks to the paws of dogs and cats and damages them, spoils shoes and the track surface. So the way is working, but unpleasant - you will have to reanimate shoes, treat paws of animals, wash clothes from salt stains, if, for example, children played with such snow and ice.

The third option is sand. It just scattered over the ice. At first it seemed that the option was good - it was not slippery. But then, when the wind picked up, the sand from above just blew away.

In addition, the porch covered with sand looks not at all aesthetically pleasing, dirty and unkempt, spoiling the winter landscape. Therefore, I did not like this method either.

A neighbor advised me another method - to prepare a special solution. Composition:

• warm water - 1 liter;
• dishwashing liquid - 3 drops;
• alcohol - 30 ml.

The ingredients are mixed in a bowl, saucepan, or plastic bottle. The composition just needs to be poured over the ice. It disappears really quickly, and even with a thick build-up it was quite easy to deal with. And the liquid consumption is small, it easily spreads over the surface and forms a film. Henceforth I will use this particular solution.
