Forvet: a cure for your cat has been successfully tested in humans
Viral diseases of cats, especially kittens, are a sore subject for veterinarians, as well as owners and breeders of cats. A virus-infected cell is a welcome prey for bacteria, which is why viral diseases of cats so often occur with severe and dangerous bacterial complications. Viruses are mutable, they strive to survive by changing their structure, and return in a new guise, tricking the immune system. One of the developments of domestic scientists designed to combat viral infections is the veterinary medicine Forvet.

Composition and form of release
The developer is National Research Company LLC. The patented Panavir polysaccharide complex is the active ingredient of Forvet. It is produced from plant materials - isolated from potato sprouts (Solanum tuberosum).
The Panavir polysaccharide complex, which is part of Forvet, is a large polymer molecule that combines simpler carbohydrates in its composition:
- xylose (0.1โ3%);
- mannose (0.1-5%);
- galactose (2โ27%);
- glucose (10โ67%);
- rhamnose (2-10%);
- arabinose (3-15%);
- uronic acids (2โ5%).
And also the composition includes excipients: sodium chloride and water for injection.
The injection solution of this medicine looks like a clear or slightly cloudy liquid; colorless or light brown.
Solution for injection looks like a clear or slightly cloudy liquid
Forvet is produced in glass ampoules of 1, 2, 5 ml or in bottles of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 ml.
Mechanism of action
Forvet is an immunomodulator; it modifies the immune response, restoring the impaired function of the immune system. It is able to protect the cell by increasing the production of interferons directly in the body, and slows down the intracellular reproduction of the next generations of the virus, which reduces viral aggression and increases the chances of the affected cells for survival.
The use of Forvet leads to resistance in cats:
- to pathogens of both viral and bacterial origin;
- to the effects of adverse environmental factors;
- stimulates the intensity of metabolic processes;
- enhances the response of cellular immunity;
- increases the general resistance of the animal organism to the effects of adverse factors.
Modulation of the response of the immune system is manifested by an increase in the production of interferons in the body.
Forvet is able to increase the production of two types of interferons at once: alpha-interferon is produced by leukocytes; gamma interferon - specialized immune cells (natural killer cells, T-lymphocytes, macrophages), thereby normalizing the protective function and increasing the strength of the response. The antiviral effect consists in a depressing effect on the virus in all phases of its development and reproduction. Interferons act on the virus inside the cell. By acting on the receptors of cells, they suppress the synthesis of viral proteins, stopping the reproduction of the virus and the destruction of cells; therefore the effect of interferons is the more effective, the earlier they were formed.
Forvet has both antiviral and immunomodulatory effects
Indications for use
In cats, Forvet is prescribed necessarily as part of a complex of drug therapy:
- rotavirus enteritis - inflammation of the stomach and small intestine caused by feline rotavirus;
- herpesvirus rhinotracheitis - inflammation of the upper respiratory system caused by the herpes virus;
-
calicivirus infection - a highly contagious infection caused by caliciviruses, and proceeding with lesions of the respiratory system, joints, eyes, mucous membranes of the oral cavity;
Ulcerative lesion of the oral mucosa as a symptom of calicivirus
-
dermatomycosis - fungal skin diseases, one of which is ringworm;
A focus of dermatomycosis - ringworm - on the cat's face; characteristic rounded focus of redness with thinning of the coat
- panleukopenia - a very contagious and dangerous viral disease of cats, also called "feline distemper", which causes damage to the respiratory and digestive systems, heart; high fever, dehydration and intoxication.
How to use Forvet correctly
Preliminary preparation of the cat for the administration of the drug is not required. If there is a need to prevent the disease, then Forvet is prescribed in cats twice with an interval of 1-2 days in single doses (ml per animal):
- for cats weighing less than 5 kg - 2.5 ml, subcutaneously or intravenously;
- for cats weighing more than 5 kg - 5 ml, subcutaneously or intravenously.
For therapeutic purposes, as part of complex therapy, it is used in cats:
- for the treatment of rotavirus enteritis, herpesvirus rhinotracheitis and calciviral infection - 1 ml per 5 kg of body weight once a day for 7-10 days;
- for the treatment of dermatomycosis - s / c at the rate of 1 ml per 10 kg of weight, 1 time per day - 7 days;
- as a component of the complex treatment of panleukopenia - intravenously or subcutaneously at the rate of 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight, once a day for 5โ7 days.
How long the course will last will be determined only by the veterinarian, focusing on the condition of the cat. There are no peculiarities of the drug's effect either at the beginning or after the end of the course of treatment. You should not violate the Forvet therapy regimen, as this may result in a weakening of the therapeutic effect. If one single dose is missed, then continue the reception according to the previous scheme without changing the dose.

Approximate cost and existing analogues
In veterinary medicine, there are no direct analogues (drugs containing the same active substance) forvet. It is possible to compare Forvet within the group of modern immunomodulators used in veterinary medicine for the treatment of viral diseases of cats; the table shows the drugs that are most often used by veterinarians, and are published on their websites by veterinary clinics.

It is worth dwelling here on the fact that at the beginning of the analysis, two more drugs were present in the table - Anandin and Kamedon (Cardanon); which are excluded due to the lack of registered indications for the treatment of infectious diseases in cats. Despite the abundance of positive reviews on the Internet on their use in cats, they are intended for the treatment of infections in dogs. Most likely, studies in cats have not been conducted, and their effectiveness and safety has not been proven.
All drugs in this group are financially affordable. Their high level of safety makes them applicable both in the treatment of pregnant cats and kittens. Forvet, Gamavit, Fosprenil and Maxidin 0.4 have a wide spectrum of action. Of these, Forvet, Gamavit and Fosprenil can be administered intravenously, this is a valuable quality, since, in the absence of significant drug-drug interactions, this allows them to be included in the composition of solutions for intravenous infusion. And also these three drugs have indications for the prevention of viral infections, this is also very valuable, it is always better to prevent than to treat an already sick animal.
Here, to my amazement, I saw Forvet in a group of well-known and respected drugs. I know firsthand what kind of fur coat grows by winter when using Maxidine; how papillomas on Fosprenil fall apart and disappear without a trace, and certainly not a single vaccine, not a single poisoning can do without Gamavit. I always have Gamavit. These are really working drugs, and no one will ever make me hesitate in this. Each of these products confidently solved the problem that arose in my animal, and Fosprenil - in monotherapy mode. Is Forvet worthy to be with them?
Reviews about the drug Forvet from cat owners and veterinarians
Forvet, apparently, has already managed to get the favor of veterinary veterinarians.
It should be noted that not all veterinarians trust Forvet, and the group of immunomodulators in principle. One of the reasons is their absence in Western recommendations, and this is natural, since immunomodulators are, for the most part, Russian developments. This is how the difference between the domestic and Western approaches to the effect on the immune system is manifested. The second reason is often cited as a lack of quantity and quality of clinical trials on the use of immunomodulators. Registration of veterinary drugs abroad is almost the same as in human medicine - and this is very good. In Russia, the Rosselkhoznadzor is engaged in this, the standards for conducting research in Russian veterinary medicine are softer; but all the necessary research is being done; data on the efficacy and safety of a veterinary drug are always evaluated. And the effectiveness of domestic developments according to registered indications is proven within the framework of the requirements presented.
Those doctors who use immunomodulators note that they increase the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy in animals with immunodeficiencies, reduce the need to connect additional antibacterial drugs to those already available in the treatment regimen, and can also cause rapid activation of the immune system, which is necessary for the prevention of diseases. Veterinarians report a reduction in the duration of disease, relief of symptoms, and a decrease in the incidence of chronicity and carrier formation. Many doctors add immunomodulators to vaccination regimens to achieve a better immune response to the vaccine and build up a robust immunity.
In any case, the expediency of prescribing Forvet is determined only by the attending veterinarian
Photo gallery of the use of Forvet in veterinary practice:
- For convenience, Forvet is available in both vials and ampoules.
- A kitten with purulent conjunctivitis, rhinitis, inflammation of the submandibular lymph nodes and fever caused by the herpes virus
- The kitten recovered after 5 days of complex therapy with Forvet (doctor N. A. Rachmanina); when carrying out PCR after 8 months - the absence of the formation of a carrier of the virus
The Forvet manufacturer has the fact that he continues to research his product, not being limited to what has been achieved. There is a lot of data on the Internet about the study of the safety and effectiveness of Forvet in a wide range of infectious diseases in a wide variety of animal species, based on reputable veterinary clinical institutions. Forvet continues to build on the experience of its use, which serves as a guarantor of reliability when using the drug.
Thus, Forvet is a relatively new for veterinary practice, an immunomodulator with a wide spectrum of action and a high level of application safety; a large choice of routes of administration and the presence of a prophylactic regimen. Forvet already has a positive reputation with both experienced veterinarians and pet owners. Forvet is included in the drug treatment of an infectious disease, and is able to positively affect the severity of its manifestations and recovery time. The use of Forvet is allowed only when prescribed by a veterinarian. You can not engage in self-diagnosis and self-medication, and endanger the health and life of your little furry friend. The best and most reliable prevention of most dangerous infectious diseases of cats is timely vaccination.
