Information on the form of production and composition of Milprazon
Milprazone is a combined anthelmintic, characterized by the presence of nematodicidal and cestodicidal action. It is intended for oral administration. Among the active ingredients of the drug can be seen two substances called praziquantel and milbemycin oxime. They are characterized by a broad spectrum of antiparasitic action.
Milprazone is an effective anthelmintic agent for cats
Milprazon comes in two varieties. It is convenient for the consumer. The first variety is shown to animals weighing up to 2 kg (including kittens). It contains 4 mg of milbemycin oxime and 10 mg of praziquantel. The second variety is indicated for cats weighing more than 2 kg. These pills contain 16 mg and 40 mg of active ingredients, respectively. The tablets of the first variety are brownish-yellow, the second brownish-red. They have a meaty flavor.
Both types of tablets are enriched with auxiliary components:
- meat flavoring,
- povidone,
- microcrystalline cellulose,
- silicon,
- lactose monohydrate,
- croscarmellose sodium,
- magnesium stearate,
- red iron oxide.
In blisters, you can find 2 or 4 biconvex pills in a shell. The package with the medicine must contain an instruction leaflet.
How does
The action of the medication is based on damage to the central nervous system and muscle tissue of worms belonging to the groups of cestodes and nematodes. This ensures the extermination of helminths with their subsequent removal from the body with feces.
The active ingredient, called milbemycin oxime, is a macrocyclic lactone. It is formed when the enzymes of Streptomyces hygroscopicus are activated. The substance acts on worms and their larvae, belonging to the class of worms, in the digestive tract of an animal. Under the influence of milbemycin, chlorine ions begin to actively penetrate the cell membranes. There is a strong polarization of the membranes in the muscle and nervous tissue, which works to exterminate helminths.
From the moment of oral administration, the concentration of oxime in feline blood reaches its peak after 2–3 hours. The withdrawal of the substance in an unchanged form is carried out after ½ day in a natural way.
Milprazon destroys worms and removes them from the cat's body along with feces
Praziquantel is assigned the role of a complementary element that works against the development of tapeworms. Thanks to it, calcium ions penetrate into the area of the nematode cell membranes. This leads to the death of the parasite. The substance begins to act an hour after it enters the body. Leaves together with the urine of a cat after 3-4 hours in the form of inactive metabolites.
Milprazon is characterized by the third hazard class. Strict adherence to the dosage does not lead to pathogenic changes in the offspring. Felines of all breeds and age groups have a good tolerance of the active components. This medication is toxic to aquatic organisms (fish, molluscs, crustaceans and other inhabitants of the underwater world) and bees.
Who is shown
Milprazon is indicated for felines to get rid of helminthiasis in diseases provoked by larvae and adult worms:
- cestodes (Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Echinococcus spp.)
- nematodes (Ancylostoma tubaeforme, Toxocara cati, Dirofilaria immitis).
The medication is also used for nematodo-cestode lesions.
Also, the medicine is recommended by veterinarians to prevent the threat of helminthiasis. Taking it for 30 days prevents the likelihood of dirofilariasis.
In my opinion, it is advisable to take preventive antiparasitic drugs like Milprazon for their pets by everyone who has a cat at home. Many owners of murziks mistakenly believe that if a pet is not on the street, there is no reason to be afraid that it will become infected with worms. In fact, this is not the case. My cat Boniface, although he does not walk in the yard, nevertheless faced this problem. Suspecting the presence of parasites in our pet, we went to the veterinary clinic. The veterinarian explained the worm infestation in our cat by the consumption of raw meat by the animals. This is the most common cause of parasites in pets, according to the doctor. Both the owners and their guests can bring parasites into the house on shoes. For this reason, pets, even deprived of the opportunity to contact with nature and street animals, are susceptible to worms. After Boniface has undergone treatment, we regularly conduct anthelmintic prophylaxis for him. It is better to prevent the problem than then the animal will get sick and pose a threat of infection with worms for the household who does not leave it.
Features of the correct use of funds
The feline anthelmintic medicine Milprazone is taken once. According to the instructions, it is recommended to give the tablet mixed with food. You can also force the pet to swallow it by placing the pill on the tongue and covering the pet's mouth.
Milprazone is given to the animal with food or by pushing the tablet into the mouth
Individuals weighing up to 1 kg should be given half a brownish-yellow pill; up to 2 kg. - kiss.
Cats from 2 to 4 kg are given one-time half of a brownish-reddish tablet, weighing from 4 to 8 kg - whole, more than 8 kg - one and a half pieces.
The leaflet for the medication does not contain recommendations on fasting before treatment with Milprazon.
For felines, deworming is recommended after consulting a veterinary clinic. For prevention, this measure is resorted to once a quarter. It is imperative to carry out antihelminthic therapy before the mating process and vaccination of the cat.

Use for offspring and cats in position
The process of getting rid of cats in position and lactating individuals from helminthic invasion is carried out only under the supervision of a specialist. The dosage in such cases is reduced.
Kittens up to six months, which weigh up to 0.5 kg, are not prescribed medication. In the younger generation undergoing anthelmintic treatment with Milprazone, more often than in sexually mature individuals, the occurrence of adverse reactions is observed.
