Should parents donate money for school renovations, security and other needs

In many schools, collecting money for repairs or security is already perceived as something common and normal. But is it really so? Sometimes the greed and arrogance of management goes beyond all boundaries. What to do in such cases? How to protect your child from bullying at school? Experienced lawyers have the answer.

Should parents of students be charged at school

By law, all municipal schools receive funding from the state budget. It is calculated in such a way that the administration has enough money for security, and for repairs, and for curtains and new computer classes. The student's parents should provide the child with only office supplies and clothing. School textbooks should also be provided free of charge. Government funding takes into account the regular updating of teaching materials. It does not matter where the school is located - in the center of Moscow or in a small urban-type settlement.

With private schools, things are a little more complicated. They are not funded by the government. However, the parents of the students pay money for the child's stay in the institution. This usually already includes expenses for cosmetic repairs, security and other needs. However, illegal "levies" in such establishments are much less common.

A separate category of fees is additional circles and sections that go beyond the boundaries of the general education program. In this case, payments from the parents are completely legal, and there is nothing to complain about here, if certain conditions are met. Firstly, such fees should be absolutely voluntary - a parent can refuse them and not be afraid for the grades and psyche of their child. Secondly, all those who donated money must be provided with a check, which will indicate what needs the collected funds went to.

For example, a school can open a dance club - but only with money collected by parents.

There is another point of view on this situation. Many schools (especially in the regions) do not receive enough money from the budget to maintain the classrooms in good condition, so sometimes you have to collect funds for repairs with the help of students. However, each parent has every right to refuse such a fee and be sure that his child will not be oppressed because of this. Unfortunately, in real life, things are usually not so rosy.

What to do if school demands money from you

At the outset, the best solution is to speak directly with the director. It is advisable to gather other parents who are unhappy with the situation. It will be much easier to achieve the abolition of such “extortions” together. Politely explain to the director that you are ready to defend your rights and, if illegal fees continue, contact the appropriate authorities. Refer to the fact that the state allocates money for all the necessary needs of the school, and you have every right to refuse "voluntary-compulsory" payments.

If the situation repeats, do not hand over the money. Contact your local RONO with a complaint. It can also be anonymous - in any case, employees of the Department of Education will be required to conduct a check. If your child begins to harass and threaten to "fail" on the test, be sure to indicate this in the complaint.

It also happens that an appeal to the RONO and the check did not lead to anything. This happens if the school collects money not only for itself, but also for superiors. In this case, you need to contact the prosecutor's office directly. If possible, hire a good lawyer - this will make the process much faster. Such cases are usually winning, and therefore lawbreakers will have to reimburse you for the costs of a lawyer.

To avoid pressure from teachers, do not talk to them about this topic. As a rule, they do not initiate the fees themselves, and therefore they will still not be able to influence anything. But this can negatively affect your child - underestimation of grades, constant calls to the blackboard and just an aggressive attitude on the part of the teacher will be provided.

Free education should remain free not only on paper. Many parents donate 10-20 thousand rubles to the "class funds". This money is rarely used for really important educational needs. Do not be afraid to claim your rights - the law is on your side.
