Is it possible to leave the phone on charge overnight

Almost every smartphone user is accustomed to putting their phone on charge overnight. It is convenient - the device charges when you are not using it. When you wake up, the battery is full - you don't have to worry that the device will suddenly run out. However, it is believed that charging at night is a battery-hazardous procedure. Is it so?

Is it possible to charge the phone at night - where is the truth

The smartphone battery can be charged at night. Modern phones are equipped with special modules - controllers. This is a small electronic board - it is connected to the connector to which the battery is connected. What the controller does:

  1. Prevents the voltage from increasing above 4.2 volts when charging. Each increase can affect the health of the battery - it will quickly deteriorate.
  2. Prevents the flow of current to the battery when the latter is 100% charged. That is, charging stops completely. Whether the cord is inserted into the phone or not is not important - the current stops flowing into the phone.
  3. Protects your smartphone from full discharge. Even if your phone turns off, showing that there is 0% charge left, do not believe it - at least 1% still remains in the battery. This is done again to extend the life of the battery: if you often discharge the phone to 0%, the battery will soon become unusable.

Them of the above follows: the controller turns off completely charging when it reaches 100% for you while you sleep. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with recharging the battery at night. But at the same time, several conditions should be observed in order to maximally protect your battery from possible consequences.

The phone systematically disconnects charging when the level reaches 100%, even if the power adapter is connected to the device

Observe three conditions if you do charge your phone at night

When can you rely on the controller as protection against prolonged charging and overheating:

  1. Original charging. You need to use the power adapter that came in the box with your smartphone. Other chargers can behave unpredictably. They can supply too little voltage, the charging time will increase - the battery will heat up, which is very bad for lithium-ion devices.

Use the device's native power adapter or at least the same company to charge

  2. Original phone and accessories. If the assembly of the phone is good, the components are used "native", the controller will work correctly, there will be no heating.
  3. Good weather conditions and stable mains voltage. No one is immune from electrical faults. Usually, during a thunderstorm, people basically disconnect all electrical appliances from the network. This also applies to cases where your power grid is unstable: there are constant voltage drops. If you leave your phone to charge overnight, there is a risk that it will be damaged by power surges or lightning striking the wiring.

The smartphone can be left on charge overnight. When the charge volume rises to 100%, the controller will automatically turn it off. But this rule will work if you use a native charger and if you have a phone with a high-quality assembly and original components. Also, do not forget about thunderstorms and power surges. If the voltage jumps at night, the phone may burn out. Therefore, night charging is also worth getting carried away - if possible, connect your phone to the network during the day.
