Not all people have depression after vacation. Post-vacation syndrome is most often experienced by representatives of certain psychotypes and professions:
- stressful professions: managers, doctors, teachers, businessmen, secretaries and accountants. After the vacation, these people will face many accumulated issues that need to be resolved;
- service workers: sellers, bartenders, waiters. On vacation, they were cleaned, cooked and entertained, but at work they have to do all this by themselves, without thinking about themselves;
- melancholic and phlegmatic. Representatives of these two psychotypes are difficult to rebuild and therefore depression is a common thing for them.
How not to get depressed after vacation
To avoid depression, determine what causes it:
- if after a rest it is hard for you to get up early and get ready for work, then plan some pleasant activity in the morning, for example, drink coffee and enjoy a delicious breakfast in your favorite cafe near work;
- if you are rejected by the long commute to work, traffic jams and public transport, then leave the house early. This way you can avoid traffic jams and find time for breakfast in the cafe. You can also adjust the route and replace transport with walking;
- If you find it difficult to start performing your duties, and the work does not bring joy and satisfaction, then perhaps the problem lies in the syndrome of chronic fatigue or in the fact that you are engaged in an unloved business. Changing jobs is not easy, so rethinking your workload and lifestyle in general is the best solution. It is also helpful to find the pros in your job. For example, you don't like what you do, but you have a high salary.
To prevent depression from rolling in, try to return from vacation a few days before going to work. This will give you time to sort out your suitcases, see your family and get in the mood for work. It is also recommended to have an active and bright rest on weekends, to meet with friends and practice your favorite hobby.
To avoid getting depressed after vacation, take care of returning to work rhythm.
Coping with depression after rest
If after a rest you have depression, then the following recommendations will help to cope with it:
- if on vacation something did not leave you indifferent, then introduce it into your life. For example, learn how to cook the national dishes of the country you have visited, or start learning a foreign language;
- Before going to work, contact a colleague who will bring you up to date and let you know what you have missed. This will make it easier for you to return to work;
- Bring a holiday souvenir to work or decorate your desk with photos of your trip. This will facilitate the adaptation process, since looking at them you will mentally return to the places where you felt good;
- Try to be outdoors more often, for example, go to the country house or go on a picnic with friends. This will allow your body to gain strength;
- Take the stress out of yourself by taking a bath, reading a good book, or going to the spa.
- start planning your next vacation. The anticipation of a new trip will brighten up your day and make you look forward to the future.
Take every opportunity to spend time in nature
If at home you feel like a truly unhappy person, then this may indicate that you need to make changes in your life. However, do not rush to make serious decisions, because in a few days you will enter your usual rhythm and see the positive aspects of your life. In order not to get depressed after a vacation, remember that you can feel happy and get vivid impressions not only on vacation. Set your priorities correctly and always find time for yourself, your family and friends.
