Why do experienced housewives tie a bag on a shower head

You have noticed that the water from the shower head is flowing unevenly, and the watering can looks far from brilliant. Don't rush to change your plumbing. Perhaps the fault is limescale and scale accumulated in the holes and on the surface of the watering can. Follow our instructions and you can easily deal with dirt.

Preparation for the procedure

Sooner or later, all housewives are faced with the problem of cleaning limescale from plumbing fixtures. The first question that arises before starting the procedure: how to disassemble the shower head so that you can conveniently and efficiently clean everything? And if the structure is not demountable, what to do? The answer is simple - use a thick plastic bag for cleaning. In addition to the package, you will need:

  • a hard brush, or an abrasive sponge, or an old toothbrush
  • scotch tape or elastic for hair;
  • cleaning agent;
  • protective gloves for hands.

Before starting the procedure, make sure that the bag is not damaged - just pour water into it. If not dripping, then everything is in order. Let's start cleaning.

Cleaning the watering can with household chemicals

The traditional way is to use household chemicals for cleaning. The most famous of them: Sanfor, Domestos, Dressing duck. The procedure is as follows:

  • pour some water and 50-100 g of cleaning agent into a plastic bag - mix well;
  • lower the watering can into the bag with the solution and secure it with tape or an elastic band for hair;
  • “Forget” about the watering can for 30-60 minutes, depending on the degree of pollution;
  • rinse and clean with a sponge or brush to a shine, wipe dry.

Cleansing the watering can with folk remedies

For lovers of folk remedies or those who do not trust household chemicals, or cannot buy them, we offer cleaning methods using kitchen preparations.

Vinegar solution

Table vinegar is the first assistant in cleaning matters. Dilute the vinegar essence 1:20, and vinegar 1: 2. Gently warm the vinegar solution and pour into a bag. Place a watering can there, secure with an elastic band or tape. Withstand at least 20 minutes, maximum time - 1 hour. Then remove and rinse the device.

Citric acid solution

Citric acid is the second most popular descaler. You will need to dissolve 25 g of "lemon" (three small bags or one large) in 1 liter of hot water. The lemon solution is poured into a bag where the watering can is dropped. The plaque begins to soften after about 30 minutes. When the process is over, rinse the watering can.

Coca Cola

Cola has become the hero of many recipes that are not related to its immediate purpose as a tonic drink. There is nothing "wonderful" in this. Let's explain from the point of view of school chemistry. The composition of soda contains acidity regulators: citric (E330) - its cleaning properties are described above, and phosphoric (E338) acid - a well-known anti-corrosion agent. A solution of these acids reacts with limescale. The required amount of Coca-Cola is heated and poured into a bag. A watering can is immersed there. After 20-30 minutes, the scale begins to soften and is well washed off with a hard sponge. Do not keep the watering can in the drink for more than an hour due to the aggressiveness of the acid mixture.

A solution of soda, ammonia and vinegar

Ammonia or ammonia combined with soda and vinegar gives excellent results. You will need:

  • one liter of water;
  • three tablespoons of baking soda;
  • 1.5 cups 9% vinegar;
  • 150 ml of ammonia.

Mix all components carefully (a violent reaction occurs when mixing) and heat. Pour the solution into a bag and place the watering can for 1 hour. Then rinse well. Ammonia gives a special shine to nickel-plated products.

Oxalic acid solution

Buy oxalic acid at the pharmacy and follow the algorithm:

  • prepare a solution: add 2 tablespoons of oxalic acid to 1 liter of water;
  • heat the solution and pour into a bag;
  • place the watering can for 2-3 hours;
  • clean all holes with a sponge and a needle;
  • rinse with clean water.

The product is aggressive, so you can only work with oxalic acid with rubber gloves.

Take preventive measures to extend the life of your plumbing: wipe the watering can and taps dry after use, install special water filters that soften water, trap iron and mineral deposits. This will not completely eliminate plaque, but you will be cleaning products less often.
