The Nativity Fast ends with the appearance of the first star in the sky - the symbol of the birth of Jesus. The fasting people eat nothing all day, and the hostess prepares the festive table at this time. What dishes are traditionally served on this day, we will tell in this article.
Brew
A traditional Christmas drink, nowadays it can be called compote. It consists of dried fruits, water and sugar or honey. Its advantage is that the broth does not need to be boiled, but only filled with boiling water.
To prepare a classic brew, you must:
- 100 g dried apples;
- 2 p. water;
- 100 g dried pears;
- a handful of prunes and dried apricots;
- honey or sugar to taste.
Rinse dried fruits thoroughly, place in a heat-resistant container and cover with boiling water. After that, you need to insist for about four hours, strain and add sugar or honey to taste. Stir and serve. In addition to dried fruits, you can add fragrant herbs to the broth: mint, thyme, oregano, currant leaf.
Rice soy
Kutya, or rice soyvo, was traditionally prepared on Christmas Eve. The basis of this dish is rice. Putting two words together: Christmas Eve and rice - got the name of the dish. It is with him that the meal begins on the evening of January 6. It is believed that the richer and tastier its composition, the more satisfying, abundant and happier the year will be.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup round grain rice
- 50 gr. raisins, dried apricots, prunes and walnuts;
- honey to taste.
First, rinse the rice and cook until tender. At this time, the dried fruits should be poured with boiling water and left for 20 minutes. Then take them out of the water, cut the prunes and dried apricots into narrow strips or cubes. Chop the nuts. Finally, mix everything and pour over with honey.
Ginger cake
You can't imagine a Christmas table without gingerbread. It is incredibly aromatic and warming. It's important to use butter in this recipe, not margarine, which can impair the flavor of the pie.
For cooking you will need:
- 170 g flour;
- 100 g butter for lubricating the mold;
- 100 g Sahara;
- 2 eggs;
- 3 tbsp. l. ginger wine;
- 2 cm ginger root;
- 75 gr. icing sugar for icing.
Preparation:
- Remove the oil ahead of time to soften it. Then whisk it with a sugar mixer.
- Add sifted flour and grated ginger, stir.
- Pour one spoonful of wine into the dough, beat the mixture.
- Beat the eggs in a separate container and gradually add to the dough.
- Grease the springform pan with oil and scatter the mixture evenly with a spoon.
- Place the mold in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for an hour. For 10-15 minutes, check the readiness of the cake with a wooden skewer.
- Cool the cake in the pan, then remove and place in a serving dish.
- Mix the remaining 2 scoops of wine with the icing sugar and pour over the cake.
