Purevax vaccine: protecting your cat from five dangerous diseases
It doesn't matter whether your cat or a freedom-loving handsome man who “walks by himself”. Everyone needs vaccinations. And if the pet leads an active life, is going to participate in exhibitions or planned mating, rests in the summer at the dacha or travels abroad - vaccination is simply necessary. It is worth choosing a drug that will protect against a whole "bunch of diseases", will give a strong immune response and will be safe.

How Purevax is used
Veterinarians and reputable breeders recommend the use of multi-ingredient vaccines. Purevax is one of them.
Purevax is a modified live vaccine containing specially attenuated viruses from five common feline diseases. The mechanism of the immune response of animals is similar to that of humans. The body remembers "aggressors" and develops specific protection, forming an artificial active immunity.
The drug is produced by the French corporation Merial SAS, which offers products for the treatment and prevention of animal diseases. The company conducts serious research, has a significant reputation in the market for manufacturers of veterinary drugs.
Purevax vaccine effectively protects cats against several common diseases.
What diseases does Purevax prevent?
A number of feline ailments cause serious harm to health, give serious complications or threaten the pet with death:
- Calicivirus infection. Calicivirus is a viral disease that affects the respiratory tract, giving a complication to the musculoskeletal system in the form of lameness. There are forty strains of the virus. Veterinarians record up to 30% of deaths.
- Infectious rhinotracheitis, or feline herpes, is a viral disease accompanied by severe damage to the eyes and respiratory system. Contagious, spreads quickly. The mortality rate is up to 20%.
- Panleukopenia, or feline distemper, is a viral infection of the gastrointestinal tract. Severe dehydration and intoxication develop, and in 70% of cases, adult animals die.
- Leukemia is a disease that attacks the blood, lymph, and brain and causes tumors. Up to 85% of sick pets die. The animal remains a carrier of the virus and is dangerous to other individuals. Studies confirm the possibility of multiplication of the microorganism in human tissues, although there is no data on infection.
-
Chlamydia. Chlamydia causes inflammation of the lining of the eyes, mouth, and sinuses. There have been rare cases of infection in young children.
Chlamydia is a cross between a virus and a bacterium, so it's not so easy to fight this microorganism
There are three types of the drug:
- Purevax RCP - for indoor cats (against calcivirosis, rhinotracheitis and panleukopenia).
- Purevax FeLV - for pets going out (against calcivirosis, rhinotracheitis, panleukopenia and viral leukemia).
-
Purevax RCPCh - for animals kept in the nursery (against calcivirosis, rhinotracheitis, panleukopenia, viral leukemia and chlamydia).

Dosage form, dosage and method of administration
The vaccine is a dried mixture of cultures, diluted with water for injection. The drug is supplied in one dose. Ten vials are packaged in a box, each containing a detailed annotation. Stored for 18 months.
One milliliter of the vaccine is administered to cats of any weight subcutaneously twice with an interval of three, maximum four weeks. Re-vaccination is carried out annually.

Healthy cats over two months of age should be vaccinated. The prepared drug is not stored, it is prepared immediately before use.
Video: how cats are vaccinated
I have been vaccinating my cat since I got it. Having studied the information on the Internet, I choose the drugs. I give an antihelminthic agent, after ten days I bring them to the clinic for the first vaccination. The veterinarian examines the animal, injects the vaccine, and assesses the pet's condition after vaccination. Revaccinating at home. It is important to strictly control the timing so as not to lose the accumulated active immunity.
Re-vaccination at home has several benefits. This is convenient, because the cat does not experience stress when visiting a veterinary clinic, and additional time is not spent on visiting a doctor. Home vaccinations are economical and safe, as the effect of the drug on the animal has already been studied during the first injection.

Features of using the vaccine
As an immunobiological drug, Purevax has a number of conditions for use.
Contraindications
Do not vaccinate a sick animal, wait for a full recovery. Give your pet a suitable anthelmintic 10 days before vaccination, for example:
-
Milbemax;
The drug Milbemax belongs to the antihelminthic agents of a complex spectrum of action, and its popularity among owners of cats and dogs is due to the high level of effectiveness and relative safety for a pet.
- Drontal;
- Caniquantel.
Immunization is indicated for healthy, helminth-free cats. Not subject to vaccination:
- sick animals;
- kittens less than eight weeks old;
- pregnant and lactating cats.
Side effects
With the correct use of the vaccine, there are no side effects.
Rarely found:
- quickly disappearing swelling at the injection site;
- a short decrease in appetite;
- slight drowsiness and lethargy of the animal;
- passing slight increase in temperature.
Application of the drug for kittens and pregnant cats
Disease prevention should be considered from an early age. The kitten's immunity is weak, viral diseases can be deadly for them. It is allowed to vaccinate a kitten with Purevax from eight weeks of age.
You can vaccinate a kitten from two months of age
Pregnant and lactating cats are not vaccinated with this remedy.
Interaction with other drugs
Purevax is not used concomitantly with other vaccines. Can only be mixed with Merial SAS Biologicals against Rabies and Viral Leukemia. Separate administration is always required.
