To determine the moment of planting cabbage for seedlings, pay attention to the ripening period of the variety:

• early broccoli varieties ripen 60–85 days after sowing;
• mid-season cultivars have a vegetation period of 90–110 days;
• late broccoli can be cut after 165-180 days.

Early maturing varieties are sown approximately in the 3rd decade of March (varieties Tonus, Lord F1, Lazar, Fiesta, Maraton F1, Curly head). Broccoli, which ripens at the end of July (mid-season), is usually planted on seedlings from March 20 to April 10 (varieties Gnome, Fortuna, Laki). Cabbage with a late ripening period develops the longest, it needs to be sown at about the same time as the mid-ripening one (varieties Parthenon F1, Calabrese). The approximate planting period for broccoli with any ripening period is from March 20 to April 15.

How not to be mistaken with the timing of planting broccoli

To prevent the seedlings from overgrowing on the window in anticipation of "moving" to the beds, closer to the sun, you should focus primarily on the climate prevailing in the region. And also gardeners pay attention to the weather in the coming summer cottage season - if a cold snap is expected in May, do not rush to sow early varieties, because they will require relocation to the beds 35-40 days after sowing. Broccoli seeds germinate 7-10 days after sowing.

If there is an opportunity to grow broccoli seedlings in a greenhouse, you can safely start sowing in mid-March. After April 20-25, broccoli is not scary to sow directly into the open ground: the first sprouts begin to move out just at the time of the onset of stable heat.

Without fear, seedlings of May can be sown directly into the ground; seeds of early broccoli varieties are suitable for this.

Cabbage seedlings can be planted in the ground when the plant forms 3-4 true leaves

In the Black Earth Region, any types of cabbage are sown in the ground from 1 to 10 May. By the end of the month, a strong seedling grows up: it needs to be sown in the beds. In the early days, I shade young seedlings with a special synthetic mesh with a small cell (sold in garden centers) - I fix it on a support (at a height of 0.5-0.7 m from the ground above the seedlings). It should not be forgotten: any cabbage loves sprinkling and feeding. As soon as 3-4 leaves are formed, I add a liquid mullein solution - dilute in a ratio of 1:10 - with the addition of boric acid - 5 g per 10 liters of warm water. One small broccoli requires 300-500 g of this fertilizer. I repeat the procedure after 10 days.
