Why you can't sleep on two pillows: truth and myths

Sleep has always been presented to people as something mystical and sacred, therefore this process was not spared by numerous signs and superstitions. Some of them also touched on bedding - for example, pillows. You may have heard that it is not worth sleeping on two. But that's why and what it supposedly threatens - we have to figure it out.

Superstition about two pillows

When you think of superstitions about two pillows, the saying "you can't sit on two chairs" may immediately come to mind. However, this superstition has nothing to do with puns and this phrase.

The most common reason is considered to be a certain non-verbal message to the Universe that speaks of your desire for independence. What's bad about it? Apparently, the Universe (or the people who invented this superstition) believes that independence is incompatible with a love relationship. Therefore, sleeping on two pillows is regarded as a statement of unwillingness to enter them. Therefore, lonely superstitious people who want to find a soul mate refuse a second pillow.

But if you thought that with the beginning of living together with your beloved person, you could return to two pillows - no, superstitions have a different opinion. This time, sleeping on two pillows kicks an already existing person out of your life. Apparently, this is all connected with the same non-verbal message about independence. But some argue that a spouse who sleeps on two pillows will sooner or later go to the left, and this will destroy the marriage.

I wonder what then superstitious people say about those who prefer to sleep with three or more pillows.

Should I give up two pillows

If we consider the situation exclusively rationally, then the key points will be the comfort and health of the sleeper. If with the first everything is more or less clear (since you sleep with two pillows, it means that it is so convenient for you), then with the second it is worthwhile to understand a little.

If you sleep on your side, then a second pillow is highly recommended for you - but not under the head, but between the knees. This will help you maintain a balanced posture without twisting your hips or straining your spine.

If you are used to sleeping on your back, then a second pillow under your head is needed only if the thickness of one is not enough. Make sure not to tilt your head when lying on the bed. Lying on your back, you should, as it were, keep the perfect posture. And the right pillow thickness is key here. If your chin tends to touch the collarbones, then the second pillow is clearly not needed - remove it from under your head.

Sleeping on your stomach with two pillows is highly discouraged. Sleeping on your stomach is not the healthiest thing to do, and having a second pillow only exacerbates these problems. If the pillow is under your head, your back suffers from excessive pressure between the vertebrae. By placing the roller under your belly, you increase the pressure on your internal organs. And if the pillow lies nearby and you throw your hand on it, then the limb will go numb during sleep.

The choice of the number of pillows depends largely on the position in which you sleep.

The superstition about two pillows has no rational basis, and therefore you should not choose bed sets based on it. Focus on your own comfort and healthy sleep.
