You can buy fresh cucumbers at any time of the year, but you really want to delight yourself with vegetables from the garden for a longer time, especially if they were grown independently. It is unlikely that it will be possible to store them all winter, but several months before the onset of cold weather is quite possible.

Wrap in a bag

Only the freshest cucumbers are suitable for storage, not watery and without damage. They must be placed in a plastic bag, then covered with damp gauze.

Do not tie the bag itself. In this form, vegetables should be stored in the refrigerator, but not more than 10 days.

Wrap in paper

To keep the cucumbers fresh for up to 2 weeks, it is a good idea to wrap each vegetable with a paper towel or napkin. After that, they must be placed in a plastic bag that cannot be tied.

In this form, the fruit must be stored in the refrigerator.

Submerge in water

This method will help extend the shelf life to 4 weeks. Pour cold water into a suitable container, immerse cucumbers in it, placing them with their tails down - there should be a small part of them in the water, 1–2 cm.

Now the container needs to be placed in the refrigerator, in the vegetable compartment. Change the water every day. In this way, the fruits replenish the lost moisture. However, this method is only suitable for cucumbers with a dense dark skin.

Spread with egg white

Egg white forms a waterproof film on the surface of the fruit, which retains moisture in the fruit. To do this, the cucumbers need to be washed, dried, and then greased with egg white.

During the entire storage time, you need to monitor the temperature and prevent it from dropping below zero, otherwise mucus may appear on the surface of the cucumbers, and the pulp will quickly soften. For this reason, it is recommended to store them on the vegetable shelf away from the freezer.

Wrap in a damp cloth

This method allows you to store cucumbers for a week, while they can simply be indoors at a temperature of + 6 … + 7C. The fruits just need to be wrapped in a damp towel.

During the entire storage period, it is recommended to inspect stocks for damage.

Bury in the sand

An unusual but effective way to store cucumbers for several weeks. For storage, bulk earthenware is suitable, in which you need to lay the fruits in layers, sprinkling them with fine sand.

Now the container must be closed with a lid, and then removed to a cool room, for example, in a cellar. You can increase the storage time if you bury the earthenware in the cellar in the ground.

Lower into the well

If you live in a private house and there is a well on your garden plot, then the harvest can be stored in it for 10-14 days. To do this, lay the fruits in layers in a dry metal bucket, then cover them with a towel.

Next, lower the container into the well, but so that it only touches the water a little.

Store in cabbage

You need to think about the possibility of storing the crop in this way in advance, since the cucumbers will have to be planted next to the later varieties of cabbage. Immediately after the appearance of the ovaries, small fruits, together with a lash, are placed between the cabbage leaves, and preferably close to the stump.

When the time comes, the cabbage is cut and sent to the cellar for storage. Those who have tried this method of growing cucumbers claim that in this way they will remain fresh throughout the winter.

Dip into the reservoir

If there is a body of water near your site that does not freeze in winter, then cucumbers can be stored in it. However, this method should be chosen only if access to this reservoir is limited.

Vegetables are put in a bag made of synthetic material, while only one that has a small mesh diameter is suitable. From below on a string bag, you need to hang the load, and then lower the vegetables into the reservoir, securing them securely.
