Acrylic bathtubs have become very popular lately. But their owners often face problems with caring for such a delicate coating. Today we will talk about how not to harm an acrylic bath.

Features of acrylic bathtubs, precautions

The range of acrylic bathtubs is huge, they are presented in a wide variety of colors, shapes and sizes. An additional plus is that their coating has antibacterial properties, as well as low thermal conductivity, due to which the water inside the container retains its temperature for a long time.

An acrylic bathtub requires very gentle care

It is very important that certain rules are followed when using acrylic bathtubs.

  1. To wash it, it is strictly forbidden to use aggressive cleaning agents that contain abrasive particles or acids. These include "Komet", chlorine, "Silit" and "Domestos".
  2. Do not bathe cats, dogs, or other pets in an acrylic bath. They can scratch the coating with their claws.
  3. If you use wash basins, place a rubber mat on the bottom of the tub.
  4. Do not allow too hot water to get on the acrylic.
  5. Try to keep the bathroom surface dry. Be sure to wipe it off with a soft cloth after use.

Chemical care products

Since acrylic bathtubs are very demanding to maintain and have become quite common lately, manufacturers of household chemicals have taken care of the release of special cleaning products for this type of coating. You can buy them at any specialty or hardware store. Most often, such funds are produced in the form of gels and pastes, less often in the form of a powder. The most popular ones:

  • Cif
  • Akrylan
  • Sarma
  • Cillit
  • Acryl-Net
  • Star-Acrylat

Apply the chosen product to the surface of the bath, soak for a while, and then rinse with a soft sponge or napkin. Do not use sponges or rough cloth.

Choose your acrylic bathroom products carefully

You can check for yourself how the chosen product is suitable for cleaning an acrylic bathtub.

  1. Take some powdered product, lightly wet and knead well with your fingers. If at the same time you did not feel sharp particles, then such a tool can be used.
  2. Apply some gel or paste detergent to the part of the tub that is not visible. This way you can immediately see its effect on the coating. If no damage appears, you can safely use this tool.

If limescale has appeared on the acrylic coating, it can only be removed using gentle means. When buying, ask the seller whether certain substances are applicable for your bath. Do not forget to check the composition: it should be free of alcohols, formaldehyde and ammonia. Limescale can be removed well with citric acid or vinegar.

Improvised means

You can make your own acrylic bath cleaning paste. It will cost you much cheaper than purchased funds, and all the necessary components will certainly be found at home. You will need:

  • toilet or baby soap without additives - 15 grams;
  • hot water - 500 ml;
  • baking soda - 100 grams;
  • any aromatic oils (lavender, orange, bergamot, etc.) - 10 drops each.

Armed with everything you need, start making the product.

  1. Rub the soap on a fine grater.
  2. Place the soap shavings in a bowl and cover with hot water. Stir and leave for 10–20 hours until completely dissolved.
  3. Pour the required amount of soda into the resulting mass, mix thoroughly.
  4. Add aroma oils. They will not only make your homemade remedy scent. Lemon and orange cleanse the surface well, while tea tree and bergamot have antibacterial properties.

You can use this paste immediately or wait until the soda is completely dissolved. In the second case, the product will be especially soft.

These tools, always at hand, will help you cope with plaque on acrylic.

This composition can be used to treat heavily soiled fragments or the entire surface of the bath. It is enough to apply it in a generous layer and leave it for half an hour. Then rinse the tub with plenty of water using a soft sponge and wipe dry.

How to fix the situation if the bath is still damaged

If you do not put pots, stools and other hard objects on the bottom of the product, then scratches will not form. The same applies to the use of care products. But what if the damage did appear?

Do not panic and call specialists. You can easily cope with some problems yourself.

  1. Small scratches, the depth of which is no more than 0.5 mm, can be buffed off with a regular piece of felt. If you do not need to process the entire surface, then you do not need special tools and devices.
  2. Deep scratches can be easily removed with liquid acrylic. Buy a repair kit consisting of a tube of this substance and a special plastic spatula. Apply acrylic to the damaged area, and after drying, polish with a piece of felt.

  3. Even if a through hole has formed in the bathroom, you can fix it. These are acrylic sheet products. Attach tape to the back of the hole and pour liquid acrylic into the damage. You can also use a special insert insert.

For a white bath, it will be easy for you to choose the appropriate product. If the product is made in color, pay attention to the shade marking, it will help you choose the right acrylic for restoration.
