Air humidifier in the apartment: benefit or harm
The microclimate in the house is an important factor affecting human health. A large number of devices for its correction and maintenance, which can be found in stores, cannot but rejoice. What role does a humidifier play in an apartment and is it needed at all? Consider the benefits and harms of using this device.
Do I need a humidifier in the apartment
The optimal relative humidity for humans (as well as most furniture, laminate and parquet flooring) is 40-60%. At a lower value, we begin to feel dryness, which manifests itself through itching and irritation of the nasal mucosa, peeling of the skin, redness of the eyes, constant sore throat.
But when the central heating system is turned on, the humidity in an ordinary Russian apartment rarely rises above 30%, therefore in winter and late autumn all these symptoms of dry air manifest themselves in all their glory. Small residents are particularly affected - their bodies are still too delicate and not adapted to such fluctuations in the microclimate. Due to too dry air, the child begins to get sick more often, the risk of allergies and asthma increases.
A humidifier can solve this problem. Moreover, slightly waterlogged air (about 65%) accelerates recovery from acute respiratory infections and acute respiratory viral infections. Most doctors (including Dr. Komarovsky) are convinced that a humidifier is a necessary thing in a home with a child.
Stylish and modern humidifiers are also a great addition to the interior.

Damage from a humidifier
If mistreated, the humidifier can impair health, furniture and repairs. Let's consider the main problems and ways to avoid them:
- mold and mildew. High humidity is indeed a very attractive breeding ground for these pathogenic microbes. To prevent mold growth, install a hygrometer or purchase a humidifier with a built-in hygrometer. Make sure that the humidity is kept within 40-60%;
- air contamination with pathogenic bacteria. In the housing of the humidifier, harmful microbes can indeed accumulate, which, along with the steam, will spread throughout the room. However, regular cleaning of the device and changing the water is sufficient to avoid this problem;
- risk of burns. Many relatively inexpensive air humidifiers do not cool the steam before it enters the room, so it is true that contact with the jet can cause burns. To prevent this from happening, install the device out of the reach of children and animals and make sure it is stable. If there are no such inaccessible corners in the apartment, then buy a humidifier with a steam cooling system. It will cost more, but you can safely put it anywhere;
- white bloom on furniture. It only forms if you use unfiltered water. Everything is simple here - pour only filtered or distilled into the humidifier.
A humidifier can be of immense benefit to the whole family if it is operated wisely and as directed. Do not forget to clean the device in time and fill it with only suitable water.
