People tend to get rid of what looks weird. Sometimes there is even no desire to understand why nature conceived, for example, the threadlike parts of bananas. You need to find out why these strings are useful and why they should not be thrown away.

Why are banana "strings" useful?

Scientifically, the "threads" between the fruit and the peel of a banana are called phloem bundles. Their living cells are needed to transport water and nutrients, and by the way, all plants have phloem. In other words, the phloem bunches are the plant circulatory system, the “filaments” help the bananas to ripen. Among all fruits, banana phloem is considered the record holder for the amount of nutrients. The bundles contain:

  • potassium;
  • fiber;
  • vitamin A;
  • vitamin B6.

If you do not remove the banana "strings", then the eaten banana will be healthier than without them. Bananas are excellent antidepressants, and mood-enhancing substances are also found in the peel and phloem. In some countries, bananas are deliberately eaten unpeeled to maximize their vitamins and minerals. They are washed thoroughly before use to get rid of the pesticides often used in banana cultivation.

Phloem bunches can tell about the maturity of the fruit even before a person bites off a piece. While the bananas ripen, the "strings" in them fit snugly to the fruit and it is not so easy to separate them. In ripe fruits, the bunches of the poem easily fall behind along with the peel, giving up the nutrients of the banana pulp.

I learned about the benefits of thread-like bundles in a banana 10 years ago, and I eat them when we buy these fruits. I can't say how beneficial it is to eat bunches of phloem, but they never made me worse.
