Growing tomatoes in the garden can sometimes be quite troublesome. If the plants flower well but do not form fruit ovaries, try feeding the tomatoes.

Possible reasons for the absence of an ovary

Every summer resident tries to grow strong and healthy tomato bushes, but despite their large size, abundant foliage and a large number of flowers, plants may not form a tomato ovary. The reasons for this phenomenon are varied. Perhaps the ambient temperature is not suitable for tomatoes, it is too low - less than + 15 + 18 ° С, which happens in the open field, or, conversely, it is very hot in the greenhouse, more than + 40 ° С.

The optimal temperature is + 21 + 23 ° С, maximum + 28 ° С. To maintain a moderate warmth in the greenhouse, it should be ventilated daily. Tomatoes grown outdoors must be protected from a drop in temperature with a special covering material.

An important parameter affecting the well-being of garden crops and their successful fruiting is air humidity. Excessive humidity can cause a lot of trouble - provoke the development of fungal diseases, rotting of the root system, cause flowers to fall off and the absence of ovaries. To avoid these problems, keep the humidity at 60-65% and ventilate the greenhouse regularly.

The lack of nutrients and trace elements has a bad effect on tomato bushes; in order to ripen a plentiful and tasty crop, they need additional fertilization containing phosphorus and potassium.

Lighting should also be sufficient, in order to avoid shading due to excessive leaf density, the bushes form, thin out, stepchild, the stems are tied to supports.

Excessive nitrogen content in the soil leads to active growth of green mass, which takes up a lot of nutrients from the plant, so there are no resources left for fruit set.

To obtain a good harvest, experienced gardeners use a variety of dressings that improve the quantity and quality of fruits.

Iodine solution

An affordable and effective way to feed tomatoes is a solution of pharmaceutical iodine. The substance itself is an excellent antiseptic, destroys many pathogens, in addition, it improves metabolism inside plants, helps to increase yields and improves the taste of tomatoes.

To prepare an iodine supplement, dissolve 1 drop of iodine in 1 liter of warm water. This solution is sprayed onto the leaves from a spray bottle.

Yeast infusion

The recipe for feeding tomatoes with yeast is also quite simple - 1 kg of pressed yeast, 0.5 kg of sugar and 5 liters of warm water. After mixing all the ingredients in one container, the solution is left to ferment for 2 hours, after which it is diluted in a ratio of 1:10. The resulting product is poured over tomatoes at the root.

Boric acid solution

Boric acid has antiseptic properties, is used as an insecticide and an additional source of minerals. Increases plant immunity. Tomatoes fed with boric acid have a sweeter taste.

A feature of the preparation of fertilizers with boric acid is its low solubility in water. Therefore, a means for watering plants is prepared in stages.

First, the substance is dissolved in hot (at least 50-60 ° C) water, and then diluted with cold water until the required concentration and volume is obtained. Top dressing is prepared in the proportion of 1 g of boric acid per 1 liter of water, for each bush there is 1 liter of the mixture. Watering is carried out once, in the morning or in the evening, avoiding the sun's rays, which can burn the leaves of the plants.

Ash

The well-known ash is an excellent fertilizer rich in minerals, especially calcium. It also contains phosphorus, magnesium and potassium, which improve the metabolism in plant cells and regulate water balance. Ash can be used as dry powder or solutions can be prepared. It is often added to the composition of multi-component supplements from yeast, iodine, boric acid.

When applying ash in the form of a powder, observe the dosage, an excess of minerals can harm vegetables. Depending on the characteristics of the soil, ash is applied in an amount of 200 to 800 g per 1 m of the bed.

To prepare a solution for irrigation, take 150 g of ash in powder form, dissolve in 10 liters of warm water. For complete dissolution of the substance, you need to wait about 3 hours, periodically stirring the water. When watering, 0.5 liters of the product is poured onto each tomato bush under the root. During the summer season, no more than 2 ash treatments can be carried out.

Milk and iodine solution

Spraying the bushes with a milk-iodine solution improves the growth of the green mass of plants, increases resistance to various diseases, contains useful micro- and macroelements.

For preventive treatment, a dosage of 18 drops of iodine per 4 liters of water and 1.5 liters of milk is used. Each plant is sprayed with 0.5 l of milk-iodine dressing using a spray bottle.

Boric acid solution

The boric acid solution for spraying consists of ½ tsp. boric acid in powder form per 10 liters of water. To completely dissolve the powder, it is recommended to first dissolve the powder in a small container, mix thoroughly and add water to the required volume.

Ready-made preparations from the store

You can stimulate fruit setting on tomato bushes using ready-made preparations from a gardening store. Stimulants Ovary, Tomaton, Phytocarpine have proven themselves well.
