Still, a miracle or a wonder: a description of the variety and a photo

The Bryansk miracle (sometimes by mistake this raspberry is called the Bryansk miracle) is a large-fruited remontant industrial variety suitable for amateur gardening. Created in 2001 for the Central region, but can be cultivated in all regions of the country.

The bush is high (from 1.5 to 2 m), consists of 5-7 branched shoots, located vertically. The stems are dense, strong, do not linger under the weight of the crop. Thorns are located along the entire length of the shoot. The leaves are large, dark green, serrated.

Ripe raspberries of this variety do not crumble from the bush after ripening for a week

The berries are conical, fusiform, oblong, 3-4 cm long, dense, transportable. Weight - from 5 to 12 g. The taste of berries is sweet and sour, with a pleasant aroma. Tasting score - 4 points out of 5.

Why is renovation good

Raspberry is called remontant, which bears fruit both on two-year and one-year shoots. The harvest on young branches is much richer than on last year. Therefore, it is recommended not to leave the fertile branches in the second year, but to mow the whole plant under the root in autumn and burn it.

Table: advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Advantages disadvantages
Productivity. Relatively weak resistance of the variety to fungal infections. At the end of the season, the leaves are affected by spots.
Large-fruited. In a damp, cool summer, the harvest does not have time to ripen before the onset of frost.
Long-term (within 5-7 days) preservation of ripe berries on the bush without spoilage and shedding.
Lack of root growth and spreading over the site.
Good berry taste.
Long fruiting period at the end of the season, when all other berries have already departed.
The ability to ripen on cut branches placed in water.
During ripening, the berries can withstand frosts down to -3 o C.
Increased resistance to pests and diseases.
High frost resistance, since there are no shoots that can freeze, and the roots can withstand frosts down to -25 o C.
Planting raspberries
Planting raspberries

Planting remontant raspberries is best at the end of October.

You can arrange raspberry bushes in rows and in separate groups. The main thing is to maintain the correct distance. In a row - at least 70 cm between plants, and between trenches or individual bushes - 2 m. A prerequisite is that the place must be sunny and protected from winds, without stagnant moisture. The groundwater level should not exceed 1.5 m.

Site preparation for planting

For a variety to reveal its unique qualities, the soil under the bushes must be loose, fertile and moist.

For autumn planting, the place is prepared in the spring. For this you need:

  1. Dig up the area allocated for the berry, removing the roots of weeds, especially wheatgrass, May beetle larvae and wireworm, level with a rake.
  2. Dig trenches or pits with a depth and width of 0.5 m from south to north, laying the fertile (top) layer to one side.
  3. Fill the bottom with pieces of removed turf with roots up, chopped branches, weeds, tamp.
  4. Fill with a mixture of 1 part of fertile soil, 2 parts of humus or compost, river sand. Add stove ash of deciduous trees - 1 liter per 1 m 2.
  5. Add 1 tbsp. any complex fertilizer per 1 m of a trench or in one hole.
  6. Water abundantly (2–3 buckets of water per 1 m 2).
  7. Cover with a dark non-woven fabric and leave until autumn.
  8. Sow the soil around the trenches or pits prepared for planting for the summer with ground cover plants with a superficial root system such as bent grass or low-growing marigolds. Remove weeds in a timely manner.

Selection of seedlings

It is necessary to purchase seedlings in proven garden centers, from experienced gardeners engaged in the cultivation of this culture, in order to avoid misgrading and disappointment. When choosing planting material with an open root system, it is necessary to pay attention to the condition of the roots. They should be branched and fibrous, the wood of the branches should be light, a fresh scratch on the bark should be green.

Raspberry seedlings with a closed root system can be transplanted at any time of the year, but better in spring. The root system of such a plant should braid the entire space of the pot and be visible through the drainage holes. You do not need to remove the top and pick off the leaves from such a bush.

Autumn planting of seedlings

In the fall, covering material is removed from the prepared trenches and pits. The seedlings are inspected, the root system is checked, the blackened or broken roots are removed, and they are placed in water for 5-6 hours with the addition of Kornevin or Heteroauxin for better survival and root development. Then they start landing:

  1. Dig holes in the prepared soil commensurate with the root system of the seedling.
  2. Plants are installed vertically in them, carefully spreading the roots to the sides so that they do not bend up.
  3. Sprinkle with removed soil so that the root collar of the shoot is at the same level as in the nursery. Shake the seedling lightly to compact the soil around the roots.
  4. Water abundantly. If the roots are bare, add earth.
  5. Planting is mulched with humus, compost, peat, rotted sawdust.

Reproduction

You can breed raspberries in your area in several ways: seedlings, root suckers and cuttings.

Reproduction of remontant raspberries by cuttings

Since this raspberry gives very few offspring, it can be propagated by cuttings. The bush intended for grafting is not removed in the fall. Cuttings are cut from its branches in the spring. To do this, the middle part with 4–5 buds is chosen from the shoot.

Cuttings are placed in a liquid with a dissolved root former Heteroauxin or Kornevin for a day. After that, the prepared twigs are placed in the holes and covered with loose moist earth so that at least two buds are on the surface. From above, the hole can be covered with a five-liter plastic bottle with a cut-off bottom and a screwed cap. It is best to organize a bed with seedlings in partial shade so that the bright sun does not damage the young leaves. You can also germinate cuttings in pots.

In early autumn, the grown seedlings are planted in a permanent place.

Care

Caring for raspberries Bryansk miracle consists in performing certain actions:

  1. Weeding. Raspberries do not like the neighborhood of weeds, especially wheatgrass.
  2. Thinning. The bush should not have more than 5-7 branches, since the plant has branched shoots, a large number of them will create a deficit of sunlight.
  3. Mulching. The variety is picky about soil moisture. A thick layer of mulch made from mowed chopped grass, rotted sawdust, peat, compost or humus will help keep water in the ground.
  4. Watering. They are held 1–2 times a week, depending on the weather. The soil should be moist to a root depth (40–50 cm). This requires 2–3 buckets of water per bush.
  5. Top dressing.
  6. Tying the grown shoots to the trellis, as they may fall under the weight of a bountiful harvest.
  7. Pruning of fruit-bearing shoots under the root in autumn and burning them.
  8. Cleaning the berry from fallen leaves in the fall.
  9. Cleaning the soil under the bushes from the old mulch after the snow melts and replacing it with a new one after the germination of new shoots.

Period Top dressing composition
In early spring, just after the snow melts. Furnace ash of deciduous trees 1-2 st. under a bush after abundant watering.
After a week (choose one of the recommended dressings).
  • slurry (1:10), 1 liter of solution for a bush;
  • bird droppings (1 tbsp. per bucket of water) - 1 liter of solution under the bush.

Top dressing is applied after abundant watering so as not to burn the raspberry roots.

Every two weeks.
In August, at the beginning of berry ripening. Furnace ash of deciduous trees 1-2 st. under a bush after abundant watering.
In autumn, after removing all shoots. After abundant watering, mulch the soil above the cut bushes with manure, humus or compost.

Table: remontant raspberry diseases

Disease Name Symptoms Treatment and Prevention
White spot or (septoria) Leaves are covered with brown spots with a white center. They creep all over the leaf until it dries completely. The disease can spread to the stems, which later become cracked. The plant weakens and dies. rowspan="4">
  1. Buying healthy planting material.
  2. Preventive spraying of growing shoots before the berries ripen with a solution of Fitosporin with the addition of Cytovite, Epin-extra and Zircon (according to the instructions for the preparations) every 10-14 days.
  3. Removing all shoots after fruiting and burning them.
  4. In case of severe damage, treatment of the soil and the lower part of the bushes with copper-containing preparations, for example, HOM.

Purple Spot (or Didimella) The appearance of purple confluent spots on the shoots and leaves of raspberries. The leaves dry up and fall off. Peptic ulcer Blurred brown spots appear on the leaves, which merge into ulcers and cause leaf death. Anthracnose Spots on leaves and stems of grayish-brown hue. They dry up and fall out, leaving holes.

Table: how to recognize pests

Pest Damage Prevention and protection
Raspberry beetle It lays eggs in buds, the larvae gnaw the insides of the flower, and the berry is not tied.
  1. Do not plant remontant raspberries next to common summer raspberries, from which beetles fly.
  2. Treat the bushes with Fitoverm at the time of laying the buds.
  3. For prevention, treat the berry with Fitoverm every 2 weeks.
Aphid It settles at the ends of the shoots, on the back of the leaves, sucks the sap from the plant and weakens it.
Mites Microscopic arachnids settle on the back of the leaf plate and feed on its contents. Leaves curl, dry. Spray raspberry bushes with a composition of wood ash (0.5 liters per 5 liters of water - the mixture is boiled, cooled, filtered, 50 ml of green soap and 2 tsp of kerosene are added).
Stem gall midge It lays eggs in the lower part of the stem, the larva gnaws at its inner part, the branch withers, turns yellow and falls off. Gall midge settles mainly on bushes affected by didimella. Preventive treatments of raspberries with Phytosporin against didimella infection.
