How to make a satin ribbon Easter egg
The easiest way to make a decorative Easter egg is to wrap a satin ribbon around it. The work is simple, but requires a certain skill and knowledge of the basic rules.
What you need:
-
Styrofoam egg. Can be replaced with egg-shaped packaging from Kinder Surprise or chicken. In the latter case, you need to remove the contents from the shell by making 2 small holes (top and bottom), and then seal them with tape;
A Styrofoam egg can be purchased at craft stores
- satin ribbon 0.6โ1.2 cm wide. The footage depends on the width of the ribbon and the size of the egg. For example, to wrap a medium-sized chicken egg, you will need about two meters of tape 1 cm wide or almost 4 meters wide 0.6 cm. The smaller the tape width, the more beautiful the Easter egg turns out, but the work becomes more time consuming. Too wide a tape should not be purchased, its edges will loosely adhere to the egg and bulge;
- glue. It is convenient to use a glue gun - hot glue hardens quickly and does not block work. Superglue or double-sided tape will also work.
Basic rules and stages of work:
-
It is better to start and end wrapping the egg at the bottom, securing the tape to the egg with glue or tape. You can choose the top winding, but in this case, the edge of the tape will need to be covered with a decorative element, for example, a bead or bow.
Start wrapping the egg from the bottom or top point
- Wrap the tape with a slight tension so that it does not sag, but not too much, otherwise material deformation may occur.
-
Draw each turn through 2 main points of the egg: the top and bottom. To prevent the tape from sliding off the egg, fix its position at these points with glue.
The tape should go over the top and bottom points of the egg
-
Starting from the second turn, lay the tape so that it covers about a third of the previous layer. This will help you avoid gaps through which the styrofoam or plastic will be visible.
Each subsequent layer should go to the previous one
Having mastered the wrapping technique, you can complicate the task by using two ribbons of different colors. It is more difficult to lay them at the same time, but the Easter egg will turn out to be beautiful. In order not to knock down the alternation of stripes, every half-turn of the tape must be crossed.

Kanzashi style Easter egg decoration
Kanzashi is a style of satin ribbon jewelry. By folding small pieces of ribbons, individual elements are obtained, which are then assembled into large compositions. You can use kanzashi flowers or individual elements to decorate the Easter egg.
Flowers are especially beautiful from satin ribbons.
How to make a kanzashi flower
For one flower you will need:
- satin ribbon 2.5 cm - 12.5 cm wide.
- bead;
- glue gun;
- lighter.
Execution order:
- Cut the tape into squares 2.5x2.5 cm.
-
We fold the square in half - we get a triangle.
Fold a satin ribbon square in half
-
We fold it in half again - a smaller triangle comes out.
Roll in half the second time
-
Roll up again and, holding the edges with tongs, burn them with fire from a lighter. It is not necessary to hold over the fire for a long time, satin silk quickly charred, it is enough just to hold it over the flame. Processing by fire will give a double effect: the edges will not crumble and will be welded, which is necessary for further work.
Flame the edge
-
Turn the triangle inside out - we get a convex petal.
We bend the workpiece, we get a flower petal
- For one flower, you need 5 such petals, but more flowers can be made.
-
We connect the petals in a flower with glue. Place a bead in the center of the flower.
Glue the petals into a flower
-
You can make leaf petals from a green ribbon.
Flower leaves can be made from green satin ribbon
-
We decorate the Easter egg with flowers and leaves. putting them on glue. Additionally, you can attach a rhinestone ribbon.
Small flowers can be attached to the egg in a curved line
A large kanzashi-style flower is best fixed near the base

Volumetric Easter egg using the artichoke technique
The technique "artichoke" got its name for its resemblance to the plant of the same name. In appearance, it looks like patchwork - the product consists of small parts. But you don't have to sew anything, the elements are fastened without using threads.
For work you will need:
- foam egg;
- carnation pins with small caps (sold in sewing and stationery stores);
- satin ribbon. The length and width depend on the size of the egg: the higher the height of the latter, the wider the tape should be. For an egg 7โ8 cm high, you need 2 meters of tape 2.5 cm wide.
Stages of work:
-
Cut the tape into 5 cm pieces (the length should be 2 times the width). We draw the edges of each of them over the flame of the lighter so that they do not crumble during operation.
We seal the edges of the tape with the flame of the lighter
-
We stick a pin into the egg, strictly in the center from above. It will be the reference point for the first element.
In order not to be mistaken with the center during work, we use the needle as a guide
-
The next needle is first inserted into the tape (in the middle of the long side), 2 mm back from the edge.
Insert a pin into the tape in the middle of the larger side of the workpiece
-
And then into the egg, so that the edge of the tape is in contact with the first pin, and the cap of the second is completely immersed in the foam. The first needle can be removed from the egg, it has already fulfilled its role.
We pin the first piece to the egg
-
We turn the edges of the tape so that the width of the segment is in contact with half of its length. You should get a triangle. And we fix the position with the next pin.
Bend the edge - we get a triangle
-
We do the same with the other side of the tape. We now have one large triangle made up of two small ones. And this is the first element on the egg.
Bend the second triangle and fix the position with a pin
-
We make the second element from the opposite side in order to maintain symmetry and prevent distortions. We stick the needle into the egg so that the edges of the ribbon at the top of the egg touch.
We make the second element symmetrically
-
The third and fourth elements of the first row are easier to make. They are located between the first and second, and therefore it is difficult to confuse or spoil anything.
The first row consists of 4 elements
-
We pin free corners with pins. We tighten and align the sides of the triangles so that there are no gaps between them through which the foam is visible. Pay attention to the top carnations again. If necessary, they must be well deepened, made less noticeable.
We pin up the free edges so that they do not bulge
-
We lay out the second row half a centimeter lower. As in the previous elements, first fix the tape on the egg.
We start to make the second row
-
Unlike the first row, we do not bend the tape in a straight line, but slightly obliquely. One half of the tape should cover the other. It is important here to decide which part of the tape (right or left) you will fold in first. And then, in all other elements, follow the same sequence of actions.
Overlap the edges of the triangles
-
The details of the third and each subsequent row (there should be 9 in total) are lowered by 0.5 cm vertically and shifted by half an element horizontally. That is, we pin a piece of tape to the junction of the elements of the previous row (and at the same time fix them so that they do not diverge in different directions). Periodically check compliance with the lines of symmetry.
Starting from the third row, we shift the position of the blanks by half a part horizontally
-
We carry out the previous point until only a small area of the base remains on the egg, not covered with elements from the tape.
At the end, there should be a small area not covered with tape
-
We will make the base in the form of a flower of four petals. To do this, first fix the tape, as in the previous rows, but we do not fix the corners of the triangle at the edges, but press it to the center and pin it with a pin. One petal will come out.
We make the last row of four petals
-
When all 4 petals are done, you will have an artichoke-style Easter egg.

Easter egg stand
Any structure that provides a stable position can be used as a stand for the Easter egg.
-
Wrapping a ring made of cardboard or plastic with satin ribbon makes an excellent horizontal Easter egg holder. It is important that the inner diameter of the ring is less than the width of the egg, and the outer diameter is larger. For reliability, you can fix the egg with glue.
Flat, wide stand prevents the egg from falling
-
Measure the girth of the egg at its widest point. Cut a strip out of cardboard with a length less than this girth and a width of 1โ1.5 cm. Tape the ends of the strip so that you get a ring, and wrap it with tape - you get a vertical stand.
The Easter egg holder should have a slight indentation
-
The most stable egg holder will come out of the rubber wrist expander. You just need to decorate it with a ribbon.
No one would guess that Easter egg holders are made of hand-wrapped bands when wrapped with ribbons.
-
For an Easter egg, you can make a pedestal, and a small box can become its basis. Fabric flowers will perfectly complement the Easter composition.
A small box can form the basis of a pedestal for an Easter egg
-
Instead of a stand, you can make an Easter egg on legs by placing several small beads or seed beads on glue.
Small beads can be used to make legs for an Easter egg
-
The combination of large and small beads gives a completely different appearance, although the essence of the stand is still the same.
Large beads are also suitable for legs
-
Sezal - a durable material of plant origin - will ensure the stability of the egg and give a finished Easter look to the entire composition.
Sezal will hold the Easter egg upright

How to make a flower stand out of satin ribbons
For work you will need:
-
special templates for making flowers and bows from ribbons. They are usually sold in a set consisting of two stars (pentagonal and heptagonal) and a triangle. Templates can be made independently from cardboard or a regular plastic folder. The latter material is preferred. It is more durable, does not crumble or break during operation, which is important if you are going to make several coasters;
Templates for making flowers and ribbon bows can be purchased at art stores
- satin ribbon, its width should be 3-5 mm less than the side of the star (the part on which the winding will be made);
- A small piece of felt to match the satin ribbon, 5x10 cm in size.
How to make a flower stand:
-
Insert the edge of the tape into the hole of the template by about 2 cm. During work, make sure that it does not come out of this hole. Otherwise, the flower will crumble.
Secure the edge of the tape to prevent the flower from scattering
-
We begin to wrap the template. The tape should bend around opposite star ridges and always run strictly through the center of the workpiece.
Always run the ribbon through the center of the template.
-
Having gone through all the corners, we bring the tape to the middle of the star and cut it off.
Cut off the rest of the tape in the center of the workpiece
- Using a needle and thread, we make several through stitches, grabbing the free edges of the tape.
-
Remove the workpiece fixed in this way from the template, bending it slightly. The first layer of the stand is ready.
Bending the template, remove the corners of the workpiece
- Similarly, we make the second blank using a smaller template.
-
We fasten the elements with threads or glue.
It is convenient to fasten elements with a glue gun
-
Cut out 2 circles from felt: 3-4 and 4-5 cm in diameter.
Felt circles cut out with curly scissors are more beautiful
-
We glue the circles: the smaller one in the middle of the flower, the larger one outside. These additional details will make the base tighter and more stable and the appearance more neat.
The felt circle in the middle of the flower hides the edge of the ribbon and gives a neat look to the product
We showed you how to make Easter eggs from satin ribbons. Now you can surprise your friends and loved ones with a beautiful gift.
