In the minds of the average person, a refrigerator is a place where all products are stored longer and better. But in relation to bread, this is not entirely true.

Why you can't store bread in the refrigerator

There is no single answer to this question. It is categorically not recommended or, on the contrary, necessary to say that keeping bread in the refrigerator is not recommended. It would be more correct to say - it is possible, but it is unreasonable. With this storage of bread, there are several points to consider:

  1. Baking quickly absorbs various foreign odors. Therefore, if you store bread in the refrigerator without packaging, it will most likely borrow flavors from neighbors on the shelf and will no longer be so attractive to food.
  2. Bakery products contain yeast, which, when combined with other products, impairs the taste of the entire product. To stop this "reaction", it is better to store bread in the freezer.
  3. If stored improperly, even in the refrigerator, bread will quickly deteriorate. This is usually due to completely airtight packaging (for example, factory or bakery packaging initially contains small holes for ventilation). Also, do not put a freshly baked roll in the refrigerator. First, it increases the power consumption and loads the compressor of the refrigeration device. Secondly, the steam that comes from fresh baked goods will form condensation inside the package, and this is fraught with mold and spoilage of the bread.

Freshly baked bread that is left in the refrigerator can become moldy.

If you really need to store bread for a long time (for example, you are shopping with a stock or plan to leave for a while), then it is better to use the freezer. The low temperature stops the evaporation of moisture from the roll and prevents the yeast from interacting with other foods. In this way, the bread can be stored unchanged for three to five months.

In this case, you need to adhere to certain storage rules:

  1. Cut the loaf into portions that can be eaten in one go, as you will not be able to re-freeze the bread.
  2. Wrap the bread tightly in foil, plastic wrap, parchment or polypropylene wrap.
  3. Freeze fresh bread, because after defrosting, you will get a product similar to the original one (freeze stale - defrost the same).
  4. It is best to defrost bread at room temperature, so take it out two hours before use.
  5. Remove packaging only after complete defrosting.

By following these tips, you can extend the life of your bread.

It is best not to buy bread for future use, but only eat fresh. It is better to store it in a bread bin, linen or canvas fabric. But if this is not possible and you are forced to store bread in the refrigerator, take care of high-quality packaging of the product. Use a freezer for long-term storage.
