Do-it-yourself electric fireplace installation
Installing an electric fireplace in an apartment or house is the best solution in the case of small rooms. After all, it is an excellent alternative to a real hearth. It can be placed almost anywhere in the room; it does not require much time and money from you. What is the sequence of actions when installing an electric fireplace with your own hands?
Preparation for work
Consider installing a built-in electric fireplace, for which you will need to create a portal.
First of all, you need to decide on the model. Depending on the style of the interior in the room, it can be a rustic hearth, an empire style, a classic portal or country. Do not forget to take into account the size of the room so as not to be mistaken with the dimensions of the device.
Choose a place where the fireplace will be installed. Be sure to check the wiring specifications. Many products have strong heating elements; to power them, there may not be enough power from the nearby outlet and the wire suitable for it. In this case, they will need to be replaced.
If the wires are visible, then we can say that the electric fireplace is not installed correctly
Purchase an electrical part for the future fireplace and a firebox with a depth of at least 70 mm. You will also need the following tools:
- a hammer;
- crosshead screwdriver;
- building level;
- screwdriver;
- scissors for metal.
The peculiarity of the electric fireplace is that it can be built in almost anywhere using any finishing materials, up to installation in furniture. In the case of a wall-mounted electric fireplace, for example, a Glenrich freestyle blac, it is extremely important to correctly determine the mount of the device. Most often, lightweight lintel structures are not designed for additional weight, so you have to reinforce them. If you decide to mount such a fireplace on a solid wall, provide at least four points of engagement.
Fireplace installation
After you have purchased everything you need, prepared the surface and checked the wiring, you can start the main part of the work.
-
Craft a Portal Pedestal. In its role, for example, a tabletop of a suitable size made of MDF, covered with a protective laminated layer, can act. This material is not afraid of moisture and high temperature generated by an electric fireplace. The area of the pedestal should be larger than the portal.
Portal construction from profiles
- Make a frame for the device. Cover the wall occupied by the electric fireplace with a heat-resistant building material such as asbestos. Make a marking, spread it out and fasten with self-tapping screws (11-13 mm) the guides made of a metal profile with dimensions of 50 X 40 mm. To reinforce the structure, use a 50 x 50 mm post profile, placing it across at a distance of 25 cm.
-
Sew up the finished frame with sheets of gypsum plasterboard 12 mm thick. For fastening, use self-tapping screws 3.5 X 25 mm. Reinforce the corners of the structure with perforated galvanized corners. Putty all joints.
Sheathe the prepared portal with sheet plasterboard
-
Install the electric fireplace insert into the finished frame.
Install the electric fireplace in the niche, removing the wires inside
-
Prime the entire surface of the framing and completely putty.
Finish the portal for the electric fireplace
- Make holes in the housing of the electric heater for ventilation opposite the lugs. The same holes will be required on the topcoat.
Now you just have to decorate the almost finished electric fireplace. To do this, you can use:
- fake diamond;
- textured plaster;
- VD paint;
- ceramic tiles.
By doing all the work yourself, you will save a significant amount of money compared to what it would cost you to buy a ready-made form in a store
Supply ventilation and electricity to the building. It is better to use 4mm double insulated stranded wire. Place it in a metal crimped sleeve.
