Types of vaccines Nobivac
Nobivac vaccines are produced by Intervet (Netherlands) and are one of the most well-known preparations for vaccination of pets. The line includes several series: for cats, dogs and all terrestrial mammals.
Bb
Nobivac Bb is a live vaccine against bordetellosis in cats, presented as a dry powder. This disease belongs to the category of infectious and affects the respiratory tract, provokes pneumonia. Very often, the ailment becomes the cause of the so-called aviary cough - animals easily become infected from each other through saliva, nasal discharge, sneezing, and if several pets are kept together, the risk of the disease is very high. Kittens, animals with weak immunity and elderly individuals are the hardest to tolerate the infection, the infection becomes severe and can result in the death of the pet. Vaccination against bordetellosis helps protect cats, it is not mandatory, but highly recommended, especially when keeping several individuals together (in the same enclosure, in catteries, etc.).
Nobivac Bb - live vaccine against bordetellosis, an infectious respiratory disease
The vaccine was created in 2003 as the first nasal prophylaxis drug for feline bordetellosis. The agent forms in the animal an immune response against infection within three days after administration and lasts for at least 12 months. One dose costs about 250 rubles on average and consists of two bottles:
- the vaccine itself in powder form, made on the basis of a weakened strain of a pathogenic microorganism, with stabilizers (gelatin, sorbitol, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride, sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate). Visually, the product looks like a white powder;
- solvent represented by water for injection in a volume of 0.5 ml.
Triquet trio
The Triket vaccine has been produced since 1999 and provides protection against three diseases at once:
- calicivirus, a widespread feline viral disease that mainly affects the respiratory system. The most dangerous disease for kittens, weakened and elderly cats, often ends in death;
- rhinotracheitis. This viral disease is acute and affects the eyes and respiratory system. The mortality rate from this disease is 15โ20%;
- panleukopenia or feline distemper. The disease is easily transmitted, causing high fever, dehydration, and damage to the digestive, respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Its causative agent is parvovirus, the mortality rate of kittens upon infection is 90%. If an adult cat manages to endure the first 3-4 days of the development of the disease, then it can recover, but it will remain the carrier of the virus forever.
One dose of the drug is presented in two bottles:
- a live vaccine made from special cells infected with three viruses, with the addition of stabilizing components (gelatin, sorbitol, casein hydrolyzate) and sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate. Visually, the ampoule contains a white powder with a pinkish or yellowish tint;
- diluent solvent (1 ml), represented by a mixture of water for injection, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate.
Nobivak Triket is presented in two bottles - in one the vaccine itself, and in the second a solvent for it
After the introduction of a repeated dose (one month after the first), an immune response to the listed viruses is formed in the animal after 10 days. The resulting protection lasts for a year against calicivirus and rhinotracheitis, additionally providing a reduction in symptoms in case of infection for another two years, and for three years against plague. But despite this, the manufacturer recommends re-vaccination annually. The cost of one dose is about 350 rubles.
Forcat
This drug provides the cat with broader protection, forming immunity not only to viral diseases (calicivirus, panleukopenia and rhinotracheitis), like the Tricket vaccine, but also to chlamydia. Feline chlamydia is a serious illness that provokes the development of conjunctivitis (inflammation of the mucous membranes of the eye) and damage to the upper respiratory tract. Most often, kittens develop an ailment at the moment when they are weaned from mother's milk.
The Nobivac Forcat vaccine is designed to protect the animal from rhinotracheitis, distemper, calicevirosis and chlamydia
Forkat vaccine also consists of two vials:
- containers with dry cells infected with calicivirus, rhinotracheitis and feline distemper viruses, the causative agent of chlamydia, with stabilizers (gelatin and sucrose) and sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate. Visually, it is a white-pink dry mix;
- containers with solvent Dilution in a volume of 1 ml.
The duration of the formation of immune protection after vaccination is 10 days after the second injection. The effect is guaranteed to last for 12 months. The drug is packaged clearly in 1 dose, and is packaged by the manufacturer in boxes of 5, 10, 25 or 50 pairs of vials. The cost of one dose is 400 rubles.
Rabies
Rabies is a vaccine designed to protect cats from rabies. This is a dangerous disease that causes inflammation of the brain and spinal cord with severe damage to the nervous system. Cats infected with the virus cannot be saved; when diagnosing an ailment, they are euthanized. The risk is that a person can also become infected with rabies through the bite of a sick pet, and this makes vaccination even more important.
Nobivak Rabies - a vaccine for mammals that protects against infection with rabies
The vaccine is represented by inactivated cells infected with the rabies virus, in combination with an adjuvant aluminum phosphate (to enhance the immune response to drug administration) and glycine. The effect of the introduction of the drug occurs within 3 weeks after one injection, and lasts up to 3 years in cats.
The vial contains 1 ml of a yellowish or pinkish liquid, in which there can be a precipitate that can be easily broken by shaking. The prophylactic agent is packed in packages of 10 doses. The drug is considered hypoallergenic.
The average cost of the drug is 120โ150 rubles per dose.
Vaccination methods
Each vaccination for cats is performed according to a specific scheme described in the instructions. So, a vaccine against bordetellosis is prepared according to the following algorithm:
- The solvent is injected into the bottle with the dry part of the drug from the second container using a sterile syringe. One vial contains one dose for the animal, and the same amount of the drug is administered during revaccination.
- The vial is shaken until a homogeneous solution is obtained and heated in the hand for about a minute.
- The finished preparation is drawn into a syringe, and the needle is removed, replacing it with a nozzle for introduction into the nose (it comes in the kit).
- The head of the animal is placed in an elevated position, and the mouth is closed. The nozzle is inserted into the cat's nose and injected by pressing the syringe plunger.
There are some restrictions for the Bb vaccine. So, you can not use the drug at the same time as drugs intended for administration through the nose, and you can not be vaccinated within a week before or after a course of antibiotics.
Tricket and Forcat work with vaccines as follows:
- In a vial with a dry mixture, the solvent is injected in full using a syringe, and then shaken thoroughly. The dry part of the preparation dissolves easily and without residue.
- The injection site of a cat is treated with alcohol or another disinfectant, after having diluted the wool.
- The drug is drawn into a syringe and injected under the skin.
Vaccination with Nobivac drugs is performed subcutaneously, most often in the area of the withers
The drug for rabies is already a suspension for injection, so no special preparation is required. The vial is thoroughly shaken, drawn into a syringe and injected subcutaneously into the cats. It is allowed to simultaneously administer the drug together with the Tricet and Forkat vaccines, but without mixing in one syringe and in different places. The age of the first injection and the frequency of repeated vaccinations depend on the type of drug.
Table: scheme of vaccination of cats with Nobivac preparations
Drug name | Age of first introduction | Re-vaccination | Frequency of revaccination |
Bb | 4 weeks | Not required | Per year, and then annually |
Trikat Trio | 8-9 weeks | After 3-4 weeks | Per year, and then annually |
Rabies | 8-9 weeks | Not required | Per year, and then annually |
Forcat | 6-9 weeks | After 3-4 weeks | Per year, and then annually |
Contraindications to the administration of vaccines
Vaccination involves the introduction into the body of living, but weakened pathogens or cells infected with them, so that the body can develop resistance to them. Obviously, for a good result, the animal must be completely healthy so that nothing further weaken the level of its immune defense. For this reason, there are a number of contraindications for the administration of vaccines:
- increased body temperature (more than 39.2 degrees);
- a state of dehydration, depletion of the body;
- state of immunodeficiency;
- infestation with helminths;
- recent trauma, illness or surgery (you need to wait at least 3-4 weeks).
It is not recommended to vaccinate cats during pregnancy and lactation, but in case of an increased risk, your veterinarian may advise you to resort to such a procedure. Kittens are vaccinated no earlier than the minimum age indicated in the instructions for the drug.
Side effects
Nobivac vaccines are positioned as harmless, however, after administration, the animal may experience some symptoms of post-vaccination inflammation:
- after the subcutaneous injection of Triket Trio and Forkat for two days, the pet may experience the formation of swelling and redness at the injection site, a temporary increase in body temperature;
- after vaccination with Rabies, a slight swelling may form at the injection site, which gradually disappears within 1โ2 weeks;
- Bb bordetellosis intranasal vaccine is usually not associated with any complications, but in rare cases, cats may develop sneezing attacks, a mild cough, and a brief discharge of their eyes and nose.
