Why is it always cold in the cemetery: is there a rational explanation?

If you've been to a cemetery at least once, you probably noticed that it is colder there than in other places. Why it happens? Does the cemetery really have its own eerie energy that lowers the temperature? Let's try to figure it out.

Chill in the graveyard - supernatural explanations

The first explanation that comes to mind is ghosts. It is generally accepted that ghosts are able to reduce air temperature. Where they appear, it immediately becomes cold. But here we are faced with one peculiarity of ghosts - they are more likely to appear in the place of their death, and not burial. Not so many people died right in the cemetery, and therefore this explanation does not suit us.

Contrary to popular belief, ghosts are extremely rare in cemeteries.

Another possible reason is grave energy. It is believed that the proximity of death, the grief of visitors and the general negative atmosphere create a special field that manifests itself in the physical world as a decrease in temperature. Unfortunately, we have no opportunity to confirm or deny this.

Rational causes of low temperature

Fortunately, there are several much more understandable and rational explanations for the graveyard cold:

• gravestones. Slabs and gravestones are not very conducive to the temperature rise. On the contrary, the thermal conductivity of stone, granite and other materials from which the monuments are made ensures a decrease in the temperature in the area by several degrees;
• open and windy area. Cemeteries are usually located at a distance from the settlement and in an open area. The lack of trees, walls, or other shelters nearby also lowers the overall temperature. The cold wind easily carries away the remnants of heat brought by living visitors and the sun;
• psychological state of visitors. Many people in the cemetery feel uncomfortable, and that's okay. And this condition causes a reaction of the body - trembling, chills, goosebumps. Therefore, even on a fine day in the cemetery, you can get cold.

The cold in the cemetery is not a trick of supernatural forces, but a completely natural phenomenon. Stones, remoteness from the city, airflow of the area - all this contributes to a decrease in temperature.
