5 ways to serve “Herring under a fur coat” as if you worked as a cook in a restaurant all your life
The salad “Herring under a fur coat” is popular in Russian cuisine. Try to surprise your guests and prepare a famous appetizer according to the classic recipe, but in an original way.
Make rolls
Boil the eggs. Vegetables are best baked in the oven for an hour, individually wrapped in foil. Eggs, cooled carrots and potatoes are grated.
On a bamboo rug, previously wrapped in cling film (so as not to stain with juice), lay out a layer of beets. Add a layer of grated potatoes, leaving indents at the top and bottom of the beetroot layer. Salt, coat with sauce, spread carrots, egg cubes, apply a layer of mayonnaise.
Wrap the roll tightly, smoothing the edges, cool. Cut the roll into circles, spreading on lettuce leaves. Decorate with parsley or dill.
On boiled eggs
Boil eggs and beets. We cut the fish to make a fillet. Cut the eggs in half. Three finished beets on a grater, add egg yolks, finely chopped onion, mix with mayonnaise.
You can punch through all the ingredients with herring with a blender and you get a kind of pate. Fill the egg halves with it and garnish with green onions.
Wrap in pita bread
We boil or bake vegetables, eggs, clean all the ingredients. Rub on a fine grater. It is better to squeeze the beets to remove excess juice.
Further, before reaching the edge of the pita bread, lay out the beets. Add some salt and mayonnaise. We put the next sheet of pita bread, a layer of carrots, again sauce and pita bread. Pour in grated boiled eggs, a little mayonnaise and lavash. Finish with chopped herring and green onions.
Tightly roll into a tight roll, wrap in foil and send to the refrigerator for 1–2 hours. Cut the chilled roll into portioned circles and lay out on a platter.
Make a cake
The same set of products: herring, potatoes, beets, carrots, eggs, onions must be prepared in the manner indicated above. We take wafer cakes and collect the cake.
We coat each layer with mayonnaise. You can vary the filling and sequence: remove, for example, potatoes or, conversely, repeat several layers.
On tartlets
For a change, you can serve "Herring under a fur coat" on tartlets. We spread the products familiar to snacks in dough tins and decorate with a drop of mayonnaise sauce.
