How to cook juicy shawarma in pita bread that your husband will certainly like
Often we want to treat ourselves and our family with something tasty. At the same time, there is no desire to waste time cooking. One of the ideal culinary solutions in this case is to cook shawarma at home. The dish is hearty, budget-friendly, quick to prepare. In the homemade version, shawarma turns out to be especially juicy, with a lot of meat, vegetables and a delicious sauce.
Ingredients
- thin pita bread - 2 pcs.;
- chicken fillet - 300 g;
- Korean carrots - 150 g;
- Peking cabbage - 150 g;
- fresh cucumber - 1 pc.;
- tomato - 1 pc.;
- ketchup or adjika - 3 tbsp;
- mayonnaise (or unsweetened yogurt) - 3 tbsp;
- salt, spices to taste;
- vegetable oil.
Recipe
- First, prepare the meat. To do this, rinse the chicken fillet and cut into small cubes. Then fry it until golden brown in a pan with salt and pepper. The chicken cooks very quickly, 7-10 minutes is enough.
- Let's start with the vegetable filling. Rinse the tomatoes and cucumbers and cut them into thin slices. We also wash and chop the Chinese cabbage. After that, you need to wrinkle it slightly with your hands to give an even more delicate texture.
- We buy ready-made Korean carrots - in view of the fact that we need very little of it, it is inappropriate to make it ourselves for this dish. The vegetable filling is ready, put it aside.
- Let's start making the sauce. Mix the ketchup and mayonnaise, add a pinch of salt and black pepper, and, if you like, other spices to taste.
- Mayonnaise can be replaced with unsweetened yogurt (for example, Greek), in which case the shawarma will turn out to be slightly less high in calories. And if you like a spicy sauce, add adjika instead of ketchup.
- Next, we expand the pita bread on the table. Please note that it must be fresh to be able to roll it without cracking. Then on the third part of the lavash along its long side we spread 2-3 tbsp. tablespoons of sauce, indenting from the bottom of the sheet 2-3 cm and from the sides about 5-7 cm.
- We distribute the sauce over the remaining surface of the pita bread. Then we spread the tomatoes, Chinese cabbage and cucumbers.
- Then we spread the carrots in Korean and on top - chicken. Then we wrap the pita bread with the filling on the sides and then roll it into a roll. We do the same with the second pita bread and filling.
- After that we heat the pan well and fry the shawarma on each side for about 4-5 minutes. The fire should be minimal so that the pita leaf does not burn.
Serve the shawarma hot. If there is any sauce left, you can serve it with her. And you can be sure that there will be no end to those wishing to taste this masterpiece of Turkish cuisine, and requests to cook shawarma will come from the whole family on a regular basis.
